Are there certain actors/actresses that will compel you to pony up for tickets at the box office based on your opinion of their past work?

Off the cuff, I would say:

Denzel Washington
Will Smith
Kevin Costner

I don't go to the theater to see a lot of movies, including those with these actors, but their names do compel me to consider a movie based on their track record. They seem to accept quality roles and lend legitimacy to the films they are in for me.

Anyone who garners more interest for you?

Denzel Washington. I love all the movies he is in. He is a good actor and usually has roles that interest me.

Denzel Washington does it for me as well. I really enjoy Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Downey Jr and Matt Damon. Judi Dench is just excellent.

Oh yeah and Jack Black too, he is hilariose :lol

Never liked Jack Black - any of his movies. He falls in my list of actors that will make me dismiss a movie right out! That list is long for me and includes just about every Saturday Night Live actor (besides Bill Murray and the originals) that has made it to the big screen. Former SNL actor films screams "crank 'em out and let 'em come!" to me. Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, David Spade, etc.; none of them seem to hold out for good scripts and quality rolls.

A few exceptions (films) to the list above: "Elf" and "Kicking and Screaming".

Jack Black can be good at times. I enjoyed him in Tropic Thunder and School of Rock. Not much of a fan of Will Ferrel - just...not funny. I enjoy some Adam Sandler movies, if I'm in the mood for ridiculous or over the top comedy, such as Don't Mess With The Zohan. That was hilarious. But I generally like more plot-based films.

Anthony Hopkins has been one of the most gripping actors ever for me. It's something about his calm and calculating demeanor, its almost like he has a sharp intelligence restrained by unpretentiousness. I love the movie The Edge. It's too bad he doesn't play in more movies.

Michael Douglas is also a great drama actor IMO. I like the calm, serious, and yet intense and intelligent demeanor of both of those actors. Maybe it also has something to do with their deep characteristic voices also.

As Christian movies evolve I would challenge you to look for Christian actors you can support and hopefully give you kids a new type of role model. Rusty (Russell) Martin and his son Rusty Jr. Both played in COURAGEOUS. They are Godly men desiring to honor God with their talents.

Robert Downey Jr. tends to be able to draw me in, as well as Ryan Gosling. :yes

Chris Nolan, director, draws me in every single time; this man has not made a bad movie yet. :biggrin

Hi Josh. :waving

Apparently you haven't seen War of the Roses or Falling Down or either of his Jack T Colton parts. :lol

I don't really go to see secular movies. Aside from Mel's "Passion..." movie, what I did go to see were Matrix, LOTR and Terminator movies.

I don't think going to the kiddie movies with the young ones count, does it?
