Jesus told us we needed to be perfect. I think that frightens some people half to death, but what is there to be frightened about? We need to learn a little discipline is all. Right?

Please don’t tell me that self-discipline is a bad thing.
Obviously, sometimes self-discipline can be a bad thing. The point is that contrary to your OP, 'discipline' is not 'all' that is 'needed' to be 'perfect'. I suggest you do a Bible word study on 'perfect' before you error again.;)

What excuse have we not to be perfect?

Please define "perfect".:study

I haven’t graduated from life yet and I am not the Lord, so I can only tell you what I think.

We need to be chaste.
We need to be humble.
We need to be sober.
We need to love the Lord with all our hearts, minds, and souls. This is the great commandment.
We need to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Fear not, but press on!

Philippians 3:12 NLT
I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.

no, while we should exhibit self-control, but we all those sins or disposotions that own us and no matter what we cant shake that sin. the lord has to take that from us.

I believe being "perfect" has to do with our position in Christ.

Exactly! When God looks upon us, His kids, He only sees us through the filter of the blood of His Son---as perfected already.

Then.. you are saying that we will be perfect??

Is that not what Elijah said?? (the other one ;))

This is a cop out. God has commanded that we live holy, righteous, perfected live. Moreover He has empowered us to do so through faith in christ and the empowerment of His Spirit. If we live in disobediance to this command there will be consequences.

Cop-out? For what? It's the truth that God sees us as already perfect and holy. He sees what He has planned for us.

As King's kids, we walk with Him daily and follow Him.

Hi, Jasoncran, how are you?

Here we are discussing the same old issue.

I grant that we need the Lord’s help to accomplish this, but I still believe it needs to be accomplished:

From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matt 4:17 RSV

Jesus told us we needed to be perfect. I think that frightens some people half to death, but what is there to be frightened about? We need to learn a little discipline is all. Right?

We can only STRIVE to be perfect; we can only BE perfect when God changes us ...
