Contacting the blood of Christ.

Thank you for the kind words. I listen to him but most of the time his words are over my head. Perhaps in the future you can help me interpret some of his ideas. He is 49, studies the Bible, and has an I.Q. of 180 which I am told is rare. When he was tested as a teenager he went off the scale. I asked the counselor what he could do with that. He said: "Anything he wants." When he was ten I was an alcoholic and he prayed for me. A week later I got sober. He said that is when he became a true believer. God has been good to both of us. Things are upside down between us. I am the parent, but he is the teacher and I am the student when it comes to scripture.

I'ld like to add..."Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;" (1 Peter 4:1)
Water baptism, immersion into Christ's death, is where we "suffer with Christ".
We have "ceased from sin."

Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. 1 Peter 4:1-3


Peter explains that we who suffer and die to our flesh, and it’s lustful desires, so that we may do the will of God.

This is the taking up of our cross and crucifying the sinful desires of the flesh by the Spirit, daily.

This certainly is not accomplished at water baptism which is symbolic, of uniting with Him in the likeness of His death and resurrection.


The work of walking in the Spirit comes each and every day.


IOW, it’s not a one time thing as water baptism is.

That death of the old man/circumcision of the heart occurs at our death with Jesus Christ. {Rom 6:6-7, Col 2:11-12)

You are mixing your metaphors.
The "carry your cross daily" was an instruction for those followers of Christ before He was crucified and we could join with Jesus in that crucifixion to "finalize" our carrying of the cross.

This certainly is not accomplished at water baptism which is symbolic, of uniting with Him in the likeness of His death and resurrection.

Were it ONLY symbolic, all the supposedly "dead in Christ" Christians would still be committing sin.
That is not the case.

The work of walking in the Spirit comes each and every day.
IOW, it’s not a one time thing as water baptism is.

Walking in the Spirit is the results of the death of the flesh.
Those still walking in the flesh have no part with the Holy Spirit. (Rom 8:1, 8-10)

Okay I'm all in. I'm reading the book Interior Castle by Saint Teresa of Avila. She says there are 7 mansions in the castle and you enter the first castle through prayer and meditation. I just entered about 6 months ago. Prayer and meditation is the only thing that helps my headaches. I don't think it's a coincidence. But who knows. God works in mysterious ways his wonders to behold. Is that from the Bible?

Were it ONLY symbolic, all the supposedly "dead in Christ" Christians would still be committing sin.
That is not the case.

Christians who have been water baptized do indeed commit sin, which is why we need to confess our sin in order to be cleansed and forgiven.


If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:8-9


Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.

Just curious: what is gradual sanctification and why is it heretical?

Those professing a gradual cleansing (sanctification) deny the power of the blood of Christ to wash away past sins.
Check in a dictionary or concordance for the definition of "sanctify".
For the advocates of gradual sanctification, they also profess a gradual "atonement", "consecration", "setting apart", "cleansing", and "made holy".
In effect, causing the members of the body of Christ to be only percentage points of what the blood of Christ is capable of.

Again this the work of the Spirit and the believer walking in harmony to the Spirit's leading rather than yielding to the sinful desires of the flesh, which is a daily effort.

This has nothing to do with being baptized in water.

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:12-14

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

The newness of life involves the Holy Spirit leading us to walk according the Spirit; the desires of the Spirit, rather than the desires of the flesh.


What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? Romans 6:15-16


We must not allow ourselves to become slaves of sin again, but enforce our the position of dominion we have in Christ over sin by reckoning ourselves dead to sin, in which we walk in the newness of life by the Spirit.

This is done by the believer, in harmony with the power of the Spirit.

The end result of living our life in this way is eternal life.


Paul calls this reaping everlasting life, because we have sown to the Spirit; we have invested our time here on earth towards the things the Spirit desires for us to do.

The context is inheriting the kingdom of God or not.

I am confused. By blood of Christ you mean communion or just the fact that he was crucified (bled) and that makes us saved. I was taught that to be saved We Must Believe In Christ. Is communion and baptism mandatory or just a symbol of our surrender

I got the impression that he was (also) speaking about communion for it is indeed part of our sanctification process and very very important to partake of communion...daily I would think, for blood covenants must be renewed daily. Certainly more than once a year in Church. All it takes is a cheap bottle of wine and some bread or saltines.

The Lord has slowly been teaching me on the importance of communion and the powerful effects that it releases from the Kingdom of God. There's something that seems a little spooky about communion and we do not really get to see the actual effects of communion in the spiritual realm brought about by our actions of partaking of communion here in the natural.

When Jesus told them that unless you eat his flesh and drink His blood you have no part of Him, He lost many people that day. It sounded a little too far out there for them. But if we shake off the gory flashes from the flesh and just believe and do it anyway even if our understanding is short about it. I pray over the wine and crackers and declare out loud, this is the body of Jesus, this is the blood of Christ...and U'm pert sure that in the spiritual realm it does become so and we eat it and drink it and it becomes one with us, The Lord then becomes one with us. It helps the Lord in His works of sanctification within us, I surmise that it may even change our DNA,

So yeah Sister, you have hit on a very important aspect of the blood of Christ as applied in our lives.

We do know that there is certain doctrinal differences between denominations and so forth, but we must be wise and not fall into argumentative dissension about details. It is unfruitful and divisive and may possibly negate unification of the Brothers & Sisters and the blood of Christ as it would apply to all. The Lord's blood has covered everyone...in the highest love, so...make effort to not argue.
