Mariah Hofer is my daughter. She was placed with my cousin at birth for adoption. Her Birth name is Amanda Jean.
If I never see my cousins Gary Hofer or Cindy Hofer again, the world might just be a better place to live. They didn't have the decency to list me as the Father, even though I've maintained contact through the years and there is no mention of her Mother Denise. Our relationship was severely strained a year and a half ago when I went to Spokane and found out that both my daughters were Meth addicts. Both Cindy and Gary refused to acknowledge any drug problem and I had brought Mariah's drug issue to them when she was 13, 7 years ago. They lived in denial. Mariah went to stay with them to get "clean" and my other daughter came to live at my house to get clean. The daughter that came to live with me is now back in Spokane and has been clean for over a year. She has completed her GED and is enrolled in College. I am very proud of her.
This has been very painful for our family. I had to threaten them with an emergency injunction to prevent the cremation just to get a viewing of my daughter. When I arrived at the funeral home with my family, they refused to let anyone except me, my wife and my dad view her. I was able to to get my Mom and my Step Mom in for the viewing. They would not allow my Son, or Mariah's sister (from the same mother) in for viewing. I didn't have the strength to fight it or I would probably be in jail right now for assault. Their evil deeds crushed both my son and my daughter.
We had our own memorial for Amanda / Mariah last Thursday and did not attend the 'official' funeral.
If Richard Perez lives after the beating he took from Gary and his son Gabe, I'm sure assault charges will be filed. If he dies, I'm sure murder charges will be pressed. Mariah was found dead in her bed from the over dose. Richard was found naked next to her.
Each day has it's challenges and the dysfunction from my cousins has added anger, where healing should have occurred. Some people are just evil and do evil deeds. I do not blame Richard Perez for the death of my daughter. I hold those responsible for raising my daughter for this situation. May I never speak to them again for the evil they caused by failing to do good when they had the chance.
