I'm not very good at making these type of things so please forgive me since I don't know an awful lot of scripture yet. This is just some of my thoughts and opinions on a story I read about David and (after looking it up what it actually meant) how he had so much pride that he actually started glorifying himself rather than glorifying the Lord and so I wondered how could somebody, especially a believer and follower get to that point? For Jesus said that one of the most important commandments is; "to love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind." Luke 10:27

I presume that means to put the Lord first in everything that we say and do. So what exactly does that mean? Well, first and foremost I believe that it's following His commandments, then I believe that it's devoting your time to Him in worship and prayer as well as reading and studying the Bible and living your life according to the way that He wants you too which is by loving your neighbors as well as your enemies and using your common sense. At least that's what it means to me.

The problem is that we don't always do these things even though they seem like really rather simple requests that the Father asks of us and we put other worldly things before the things that are written down for us in the Bible which includes our pride. I know for a fact that we are all sinners and that because of that reason God sent His only begotten Son that whoever shall believe upon His name will not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16.

So let us continue to glorify His name forever above anything else since He is the one who truly deserves it. :cross Don't get me wrong, it's a really good thing to have pride, but when it becomes more important than glorifying the Lord that's when it becomes a problem. Again, this is just me speaking from my heart on this one.

I believe every time we sin it is a form of pride. It is pride because we put our own interests first before God and that is prideful.

That's a very good point. Like I honestly stated before, I'm not that familiar with the scriptures yet I just state what I feel and know when it comes to things like this and I too am a guilty sinner like everyone else. However, my mother and I were just speaking about this. We both believe that God picks His battles just like any parent. For example, is lying really still considered a sin if your motive for doing so is used to protect the thoughts and feelings of others? I wouldn't think so. After all, I'm sure that at one point and time we all have received Christmas gifts that we really didn't like or it was something that we already had but we thanked them for it and told them that we loved it anyway because we didn't want to hurt their feelings and I don't know about you, but I really don't think that God has a problem with that since it's done out of love instead of ignorance.

I read about David
David was a man after God own heart
Acts 13:22
22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’
not sure i agree David being prideful he did wrong and paid it psalm 55 psalm 139
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

as per pride i think we all have a bit of pride
Proverbs 16:17-19

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting

there is good pride and bad pride good pride is i take great pride in preaching not that i am sufficient of my self. but great pride the Lord would use me and allow me to minister ..bad pride look what I DONE or refusing to repent out of stubbornness .having to admit we are wrong

The Lord hates those who are proud.
They will surely be punished.
Proverbs 16:5 New Century Version

Pride will ruin people,
but those who are humble will be honored.
Proverbs 29:23 New Century Version

Yeah, but I think those verses are referring to the bad kind of pride that Ezra was talking about right?

Proverbs 6:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

So is that saying that we can never be proud of ourselves though? Or what about lying to protect those we care about?

There is boastful pride which is what is mentioned in that verse as being puffed up or being conceited and then there is pride in the sense of accomplishments that you are proud of within achieving something you have worked hard for. Lying is lying no matter the purpose. I am sure you have heard the phrase "white lie", well it's still a lie no matter what. Does lying really protect a person or should the truth hurt for awhile, but lesson learned to make one a better person.

Let's just say I would never tell somebody I hated their gift or thought that they looked very ugly in a sweater.

ok. there's a -big- difference between genuine humility, which is something God blesses us with, and false humility, which is really pride masquerading as virtue.

pride is part of human nature. if you'll notice, as people move up the social scale, get more degrees, more money, etc...they become more prideful. most people in and the world accomodate powerful, prideful people, but when people are prideful out of proportion to their status, people try to "take them down a couple notches," etc. Its how the (unsaved, unredeemed) world works.

Part of God's (miraculous, much-appreciated) work in my life has been to make me less prideful, less captive to self-love. Keep in mind; I was diagnosed as having "narcissistic personality disorder." I got (miraculously....) saved 5 years ago, now I don't have that problem. Point is...

to follow Christ -always- involves dying to self. There -are- definite "rules" one must abide by, in order to grow in Christ. No one's saying to not be satisfied with doing good work, geting compliments on a job well done, or anything like that, but....

I've found that as a Christian, I"m now (thanks to Christ, btw....nothing I've ever done....) far less focused on boosting my ego or impressing others or...anything like that. I'm now remarkably -normal- , in terms of personality, and...

ok. I've kinda rambled. Pride is a big, big, big no-no, but its also a part of human nature. My personal approach has been to pray for proper+adequate self-love, so I'm neither trying to inflate my pride nor too hard on myself. God has responded by freeing me from my old self, if that makes any sense.

I've found that since I started repenting of my pride and self-love, The Lord has blessed me mightily, which lines up with Scripture. :)

good preaching lol you are growing in grace and knowledge

Because of the fact that he let Satan talk him into getting a census of Israel and I found this article.

http://www.biblestudy.org/question/why-did-god-punish-king-david-for-taking-a-census.html
it could be a form of pride as i stated we all have some pride about us. as per him being a prideful person..i dont think he was . his actions did cost him this where we ave to be crucified with Christ Galatians 2:20 paul wrote
Galatians 6:3-5
3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.

5 For every man shall bear his own burden.
take our eyes of Christ our flesh=pride gets us in trouble

70,000 people died because of the census. How could that have been anything other than bad?

From Dan to Beersheba seventy thousand men of the people died. 2 Samuel 24:15b NKJV
