Try not to judge BLM to harshly. They are young and some of the people are too radical. Look beyond that at their message. Black people are three times more likely to be shot by police. I said this once before. When I have an altercation with a Black person, and the police are called, they always treat me differently and always take my side. Anything I say they believe.

This news article is about a white person. If you read the full article you will see the great lengths the police went to in order to avoid killing the man. That did not happen when the Black man at Wendy's ran for his life out of fear and got shot in the back. He was drunk. He pulled over to sleep it off. This is good thing, so why did they try to arrest him. https://www.kpbs.org/news/2020/jul/14/man-fatally-shot-last-week-police-city-heights-idd/

These are really complicated times and we have to try for a moment to walk in other people's shoes for awhile. I am just grateful I am not Black and running from the police. The main thing is that this chaos is just a means to an end. Right now BLM young people are trying to get our attention. If we give them our attention they will calm down and work with the system. But we can't condemn them. This will only make things worse. Everyone needs to calm down and learn to love each other despite our differences. [A person can dream . . . right?]

Good news about the police. My car was stolen and they found it. They were very friendly and helpful.

I was listening to Detroits NPR station this morning and they had a black gal on talking about how Thomas Jefferson was a hypocrite for not freeing the slaves and how he was part of the problem because he did not live out what he wrote in the constitution. I e all men are created equal. She wanted his statue removed and you could feel her anger.
I think it needs to be kept in perspective that slave trade and ownership at that time was the norm so to label him a hypocrite might not be quite accurate. His slave ownership was a result of his marriage as he inherited 135 slaves from his father-in-law.

Due to the laws at the time, which I don't fully understand, he was unable to free them although he wanted to and did free some. In fact, he was an open abolitionist and worked to change the laws to put an end to slave trade and slavery in general defining it as a "moral depravity" and "hideous blot."

He also believed that slavery, with part of America in favor of abolition and part of America in favor of perpetuating slavery, could only result in a civil war that would destroy the union. This prediction came true in 1861. At the same time, he viewed black people as inferior and part of his plan for ending slavery included deporting freed slaves either back to Africa or to Haiti so he was not totally without prejudice.

The statue was not erected to honor him as a slave owner/trader but in recognition of his work on gaining independence from Great Britain.

I do some work at another forum so I recently had to view a video in order to approve it or not. It was about Islam and slavery. Since some black/African Americans do convert to Islam, they probably don't realize how horrible the African slaves were treated by Muslims. Instead some of them always condemn our country about slavery.

Apparently the slaves owned by Muslims....if they were men, they were castrated. If the women slaves had babies to the Muslim owner, the babies were killed according to the video. The video said to note how today you will not see African slaves descendents in Arab lands...and the preceding is why.

I can't recall the name of the video exactly but it's on YouTube.

Here is a link. It's 7 minutes long. Let me know what you all think.

From her recording, (about Thomas Jefferson)
"He's getting all the credit for writing those words that he didn't practice that he did not believe in at that time, but yet he's getting the credit for it now," LaNier said. "So I think the foundation of people's belief systems and their ethics is what they believe and he just didn't believe the right things or at least he believed them but didn't want to be the one who practiced them."

You can delete that last post. My attempt at humour ...see how politically correct we've all become? We second guess ourselves all the time.
Now I have to explain myself for being so wicked.

I'm thinking of getting a slave. Any advice?

If so, be sure to treat them properly as per the Word of God;

Exo_12:44 but every slave that is bought for money may eat of it after you have circumcised him.
Exo_21:2 When you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve six years, and in the seventh he shall go out free, for nothing.
Exo_21:5 But if the slave plainly says, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free,'
Exo_21:7 "When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she shall not go out as the male slaves do.
Exo_21:20 "When a man strikes his slave, male or female, with a rod and the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished.
Exo_21:21 But if the slave survives a day or two, he is not to be punished; for the slave is his money.
Exo_21:26 "When a man strikes the eye of his slave, male or female, and destroys it, he shall let the slave go free for the eye's sake.
Exo_21:27 If he knocks out the tooth of his slave, male or female, he shall let the slave go free for the tooth's sake.
Lev_19:20 "If a man lies carnally with a woman who is a slave, betrothed to another man and not yet ransomed or given her freedom, an inquiry shall be held. They shall not be put to death, because she was not free;
Deu 23:15 "You shall not give up to his master a slave who has escaped from his master to you;
Deu 23:16 he shall dwell with you, in your midst, in the place which he shall choose within one of your towns, where it pleases him best; you shall not oppress him.

HS it is better to be a slave than to own one. In all seriousness be a slave to Jesus Christ. Do whatever he wants.He your father and he knows what's best. I'm talking about God here but this is kind of what paternalism was all about. The plantation owner would say I love you you're part of the family. Don't hurt me. Don't run away, etc

I am sure my boss has a vision of grateful slaves as the ideal employee. He has displayed his true colours by reducing our hours and expecting more work done in less time. Yeah these are covid times but he was stingy before that. Just think. 200 years ago he could have had slaves to work for nothing. That would have enabled his dream of retiring before 50. Or 40 even.
I've seen greedy unions too. Everyone needs to be held to account. Otherwise people get away with..........well, anything.

Better to be a slave than to own one ?.........oh I see a slave to Jesus...well even Jesus doesn't want us to work for nothing. we get our retirement reward...which is Heaven...that's a good deal. Though I was hoping for a Heaven to arrive on Earth before I die.

Me too. Actually the expression a slave to Christ is misleading. He pays me a lot to be his servant and his trustee on Earth. He sends peace of mind. He sends joy and happiness. He sends comfort and guidance and hope all the things that keep me going. I'm so happy that he came to me and showed me the way and the truth and the life. I work really hard to try to help my friends see the truth. Some of them have come around. Some are still on the fence. But I keep trying.

MSNBC, Google
MSNBC has a clear agenda. I watched them for two weeks every day while visiting my relatives. I have concluded that That channel is only good for reporting their version of the truth to inciting it's viewers.

Take a look at these numbers.

Now, I don't have all the numbers, but whites are in the lead for crime, then blacks for most crimes.

We know that population wise, blacks are a minority. I don't know the numbers, but I'd bet there are 10 white guys for every black guy.

What this shows us is within athat racial group, a higher percentage of thhe black group will be criminals. As a result, a higher percentage will be shot within that group.

When you look at the numbers, you have to look at all of the numbers to get a full picture, and not just a piece of the picture that drives a particular agenda.

Looking at the raw numbers, way more white people are shot by police than black people. However, when you group by percentages, the graph shows that ethnically, a higher percentage of blacks are shot than the percentage of whites.

In summary, when crime is higher among the percentage of black people than white people, then you would expect a higher percentage of blacks arrested. It's either that or we simply don't police the crime in black neighborhoods where the crime rate is higher than the white suburbs.

MSNBC, Google
I was actually asking for a link to your sources so I could see them for myself. I'm still left with nothing but your opinion.

Incidentally, in my view and experience, MSNBC is not a viable news source. The reason I say this is because if you listen closely, you'll quickly learn that they are not really reporting news but are actually giving a commentary which is laden with opinion. When news is reported properly only verifiable facts are presented and when that happens it will most always include information from multiple sides of a story and not slanted toward one particular side or agenda.

What news channel do you suggest that I watch. I would like to see both sides of the story reported

There are a couple of ways to look at the statistics about whites and blacks getting arrested. We can believe that more blacks than whites commit crimes, or we can believe more blacks get arrested because they are black.

When my son Karl was eight years old he was arrested for trespassing on the lawn of a man in the neighboring town. They booked him, took a mugshot and put him in jail overnight. When I asked why he was arrested, I was told to keep him out of their town. This was 1978.

The day Karl turned 21 he was drinking a beer in front of his dorm at U.C. Berkeley. The policed handed out tickets to his white friends. Karl said, "I am 21; I can drink." They pulled him out of the crowd, threw him onto the ground, handcuffed him and beat him with a baton. He was in the hospital for two days.

When Karl was 25 he got in an argument with two white men. He called the police for help. They arrested Karl and let the others go. The case was thrown out of court, but I never got my bail money back.

When my son was 26 he was on his way home from work. He was a probation officer. He talked to a girl on the street and she gave him her phone number. When she got home her father was angry at her for being late so she told him Karl had detained her against her will. Karl had a trial and was found not guilty.

I could go on, because there is more, but I am trying to explain that not all black people being arrested deserved to be arrested. So I don't really trust the statistics or the police.

As for the "system." Even though he was acquitted for kidnapping he lost his job, his real estate license, and his teaching credential. He ended up becoming self-employed as a paralegal because he could not get a job after than.
