i posted this a while back in response to a severly anti-intellectual christian here. i think that christians should engage the world in the intellectual arena, not retreat from the war there, like so many have done.Carpathian said:Well, Jason, it all depends on whether you want to help human society develop even more than it is, or just pick another career I don't believe that being a scientist should deter you away from living a faith fulfilled existence. The way I see it, discovering changes in our world actually proves what God has made is good.It even fills in the blanks such as evolution being a misguided interpretation of God creating different types of people after Adam ( by the way it is possible for 2 people to populate a world. It's called interbreeding - son and daughter- yes it's nasty but what other choice? As for Cain, it is possible that God created another woman for him using the same Adam method). Dinosaurs, of course they existed, however, dinosaurs weren't the first species of organisms to 'mysteriously' disappear without much of a chance ( Noah's *cough* ark). I fervently believe a christian can be a scientist without losing faith
I agree. I think I know where they're coming from as well. They're scared of finding some "truth" and disproving everything they believe in. However, them not wanting these careers is really making the majority of Christians look bad ( as in illogical nuts who are solely on "faith") I just put everything into context and devote what I know to what God has done I hope you get more people into thinking this way also :bigloljasoncran said:i posted this a while back in response to a severly anti-intellectual christian here. i think that christians should engage the world in the intellectual arena, not retreat from the war there, like so many have done.Carpathian said:Well, Jason, it all depends on whether you want to help human society develop even more than it is, or just pick another career I don't believe that being a scientist should deter you away from living a faith fulfilled existence. I see no conflict in being a scientist if you're a Christian - unless you're weak and any little thing that may SUGGEST a flaw in your belief is enough to make you leave the fold ...
some say that evolution as taught being the origin of life from the primoridial soup is an issue as that toe denies god, though there are christians that believe they must use some rather fuzzy interpretation of the bible to do that.
the same with the the theory of abiogenesis and also the big bang theory.
none of that is enough to make a Christian leave ...
it shouldnt but the creationist will be made fun of. not all the time. but it happens. i have a friend that was a life science teacher and has a biology degree and neither believes in old earth nor evolution and he was rather derided.
Well I for one would be deleriously happy if I was mocked for my FAITH rather then in a few zillion years scraped stones ...
of course, but jobs can be denied and so on.you cant in the school system(public) in some states state why you dont believe in evolution and teach creationism
but if any teacher is good, that can worked around.
simple assign person to read up one argument or another and have a debate!
and grade on the amount of reasearch done, and also how its presented.
that would be a good science class!
should christians be a scientist, can it affect their faith, if you are one and bible believing one please post(innerent bible believing). Please be civil here, no arguments for or against evolution here.

I don't think you understand how science works then.Good science and good theology agree. It is bad sceince that disagrees with scripture. We needmore true bible believing Christian who promote good sceince.
I don't think you understand how science works then.
Science is based off of evidence. All theories are formed from found evidence. Good science states the facts and evidence even when a religion contradicts it.
If we used this Good science only agrees with scripture idea, then here are some examples of contradictions.
Germ theory - Contradicts the Bible by stating that disease is not caused by God's wrath, but by micro organisms that spread from host to host.
Theory of Evolution - Contradicts the idea that all animals were formed in the garden, but instead diverged from a common ancestor.
The Big band theory and the theory of Relativity - are also out because God said he created the world and all the galaxies in just a few days, when the theories who that the universe so far has always existed in some form and that in its current form its been here for about 13.7 billion years.
Studies done on psychosis and mental disorders - Christianity claims that mental disorders are caused by Daemons, while psychology has shown that some disorders are caused by brain chemistry or hormone balances being out of whack.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
Dosen't this present a problem though. You mentioned the old way of thinking. When psychology started studying psychosis, it was met with massive hostility. Same as with Evoltuion and Big Bang.no, that is the old way of thinking.
being the fact that i live with a person with psychosis and some here actually have it. christian does not these days call all physcosis demons.
generally demonic possesion is rare. i have been in some places where i have known two people that were possesed. and one i do know for sure that she was, she admited to it.
the other i havent seen in years. 2 in the 15 yrs of christian walking that have demonic possesion. its rare. and the last one wasnt like any thing on a movie or doing head flippin just a witch, that had former lives. nothing spectacular.
