Golden Gate Bridge Suicides

My Californian tax dollars could go to the barrier on the bridge. The wasted tax$$ in this state are over the top. And some guy is wanting tax $$$ for more sports... Some demo from SF

if one soldier did that its worth it. is 500k of tax dollars in life insurance and then another person trained and enlisted to replace that person not enough?

that isnt counting the yr pay after posthumous promotion or if married the ss benefits if the soldier was a parent.

What's wrong with putting up a 10-foot fence that people can see through fairly well but not climb? Let's face it, the bridge could not look any uglier.
No, we cannot safeguard the planet, but if the bridge has a high suicide rate then I think that is perfectly good reason to. Four feet! There may as well not be a rail there!

Did you know that the Sydney Harbour Bridge has a massive fence? No-one is complaining.

I do get it. You want other people to solve the problem instead of doing something about it yourself. Less drama, more action.
I pay taxes dude, so what are you talking about ? And like I said I think one or two people should patrol the bridge. I don't even think a higher fence will work because they will simply climb over it. So I think patrols would be in order, because sometimes people jump of the bridge and nobody even knows that they have jumped. And to you again Road dude, are you a Christian ? Because you sure don't sound like one. I wonder what you would say if it was one of your family immediate members. Or are you as cold as ice and would still be singing that same old tired tune, that you are singing.

Nice reliance of emotion there, but you didn't answer the question. You implied that droves of servicemen are throwing themselves of the bridge every day. You have any hard facts to back that up?

And incidentally, while I value what our warriors do for us, no human is worth more or less than another.

Really? You pay California state income tax?

One or two people? Why not you? Why not back up your rhetoric with action?

As to my salvation, that ought to be beneath you, Lewis. Yes I follow Christ. My salvation is not subject to agreeing with you on the Golden Gate bridge, thank God. Keep it real.

the suicide rates of soldiers is far higher then you imagine. tell how many friends that you know of have taken their lifes with in the last 4 yrs. i put forth these men
sgt prestridge
sgt cooper
sgt irwin
these are all vets save one.(the last one didnt go to war) and that is the ones i know personally.

no i said if there was one, it would be worth that barrier. do keep in mind that soldiers have life insurance that doesnt have a suicide clause to it. and that also doesnt exempt in war. that is why i said 500000. as i have that level of coverage for about 20 bucks a month. i am a soldier.i have twenty yrs service and have never seen this level of suicides in my life, amongst the troops.

So our soldiers are so unresourceful that a fence on the Golden Gate bridge will prevent those who feel so inclined from committing suicide?

~facepalm~

nothing, will stop any person from killing themselves but then agian neither will the tsa. the entire army stop all suicide bombers. so i guess we should just bring our troops home and also get used to muslims laws.

its about reducing the amount of suicides, they will still happen but we can save some. the longer you keep the person from doing the act the more likely they wont do it all. one is isnt suicidal for days just for a moment.

We could install a Stalinist dictatorship and keep everyone under 24/7 surveillance too. That would certainly reduce suicides. But it would be stupid.

ok you know i wasnt going to stoop to that but i made a point with my statement. the law can only do so much.

If fences are an eyesore, why dont they just build some kind of a soft netting underneath to catch people who jump off?

that was done when the bridge was built that would require someone to man helicopters or some way of rescuing the person from that net and maintence of that thing.

I'm a bit of a libertarian. I don't believe it's the government's job to be our mother. Freedom isn't free and it isn't always pretty, but it's a heck of a lot better than the alternative.

I'd hate to see you "safety nazis" turned loose in Yosimite.

thats an assumption. big time.

please if people did act in a moral manner according to the bible we may not need some laws that we have today as they wouldnt be doing some acts. so i guess according to you a cop shouldnt have to respond to suicide call and i know of one dispatcher that quit when she heard a mother kill herself over the phone with baby in hand and she tried to talk to her out of it. she heard the gun go off and the baby hit the floor. but hey freedom isnt free .

the mother has the right to kill herself. bad luck hit that baby.careful with that thinking assisted suicide ring a bell?

No government can ensure that all people do the right thing al the time. If you doubt it just go visit Cuba.

Incidentally, people do not have the right before God to kill themselves. I don't believe it's the governments job to stop them, but that doesn't make suicide right, or a right.
