Is it true that everything happens for a reason?

In this world we will have trials and temptations and James says it's within these times that tries our patience. I think everything we go through needs to draw us closer to God and trust in Him alone.
Jas 1:1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
Jas 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
Jas 1:3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
Jas 1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
Jas 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Jas 1:6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
Jas 1:7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
Jas 1:8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Everything happens for a reason, but not necessarily a spiritual one. For example if I drop a mug it's gonna crash on the floor and break - because of gravitation it'll be accelerated downward and because of the electromagnetism that is locally a lot stronger than gravitation and causes the atoms of the mug to be bounce off the atoms of the floor, thus negatively accelerating the part of the mug that hits the ground first, and thus the mug will break on the floor.
We often see a divine will in things that just happen naturally. Our brains are made to create meaning and connections between things that aren't there.

To answer just your first question....
No I don't think that God is behind everything that happens in our lives. If that were true, God would be participating in things that are against His own instructions.
And I don't believe that is what Romans 8:28 says.
As far as cause and effect goes, if something happens something caused it to happen.

I believe God has a perfect plan.
I agree but does God plan everything down to the smallest detail? Is everything part of His plan?

I believe when God plans something it Will happen.
I see people do things outside the will of God. This tells me that God did not plan every individual thing that happens.
I believe that God's plan is always to glorify Himself.
From the very beginning He gave man a will of his own. When man willingly follows God, God is glorified.
If he doesn't, in the end God will still be glorified as His just and true judgements will glorify Him.
So as each man is standing in the valley of decision whether he turn right or left, God will be glorified.

If so, then everything has a reason.
If something can not be explained, there may still be a reason behind it, we just don't know what that is.
However a person acts or whatever they speak, there may be a reason behind it.
I think to say that things happen by chance is a way to explain what is unexplainable.
Which gives it a reason.
Yes, I would say there is a reason for everything, but I'm not sure how reasonable that is to say.

When we as mature Christians understand the sovereignty of God, everything that happens, it happens because He directly causes it or consciously allows it. Nothing happens to you unless it passes through God fingers first. If He allows it we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Do not underestimate the sovereignty of God. If it got to you it pass through Him. Therefore if it pass through Him, allowing it to get to you, He let it get to you for a reason. Words such as lucky and unlucky or words similar should be deleted from a mature Christians vocabulary. Good and bad is all under Gods control. God is determine that all people will give Him Glory. Christians will give Him glory on earth and in heaven. The bad and the atheist will give Him Glory in hell by continually calling on His name. I guest you can stay there are no atheist in hell!

the op is the subject is there a reason for everything. all that happens to you is under god's watch. if you think that you are here by chance go ahead, im not. that isn't directed at anyone here but the thread opine. really, by chance I go to mma and the coach is a believer and unknowingly is used by god to plant seeds and challenge me on my walk and healing. but its just chance right? no its not.
Ultimately, when it comes to human beings, God allows things to happen more often then He causes Things to happen. Human freewill causes things to happen and God allows it to Play out. He Just knows the outcome of every detail. And If he didn't like the outcome, it would have never been able to start in the first place.

And Deb, I am talking the ultimate outcome of this whole thing. God Does Not Like most of what we do but He allows it.
