Adam is a picture of Christ. Eve is a picture of the church (yes, us males, too). He took the sin of his wife, the church, on himself, because he loved her, and died with her in order to redeem her.

I like this thought a lot and think that it holds to the story but....

The problem was he sinned too in order to do that, rather than being a mediator and pleading her case. When God approached him, he blamed God and the woman.
It's a fearful thing to be confronted by the living God.

He's a foreshadow of Christ. We see Christ in the parts of the Eden story that parallel what Christ did, just as we do in so many other types of Christ in the OT, but which do not exactly match Christ's work either. An exact match would negate the need for Christ to come into the world.

The point with Adam is he followed his wife into death by taking the same sin she committed onto himself. Why and how is not the point.

Similarly, Moses, a picture and type of Christ, was banned from the Promised Land because of the sin of the people (Deuteronomy 4:21 NASB). Christ, also, was cutoff because of us, yet committed no sin of his own. Now it's clear that Moses really did do something wrong to be cutoff. Nevertheless, he serves as a type and foreshadow of how Christ would also be cutoff because of our rebellion.

Think about Samson, too. He gave his life up voluntarily to avenge the enemies of Israel. And even though he was suffering for his own sin he still serves as a type and foreshadow of how Christ would also suffer in weakness and voluntarily give his own life up to avenge the enemies of Israel.

yes, that is what psalm 82 is about.

I have no argument with Adam being a type, sorry if it sounded that way.

I think the closest comparison that I see of a type of Christ is seen between Ruth and Boaz.
I find both a wonderful love story and a picture of Christ the Redeemer and His bride and what the bride is being redeemed from. That brother-in-law of Naomi's wasn't a pleasant fellow and was covetous in my understanding of him.

and and answer to how the jews might have understood being born again. they surely knew that verse and also the idea of being children of the YHWH. and how that was done. by faith and following the commands of the Lord.is being born again that much different? faith and following the commands Christ gave.

IMO, Joseph is the premiere type of Christ in the OT. Hands down.
