You don't have the correct order. Born again Christians were dead spiritually speaking, but now they are alive. Ie. born again. We were lost, but now we are found.

The parable is explained in two places. Luke 15 says there's more joy in heaven over the sinner who repents and believes in Jesus than over ninety-nine do gooders who are righteous according to the law. Matthew 18 says it's not the will of the Father that any believer in Jesus should perish.
