Hello from China everyone!
(I'm Canadian, not Chinese mind you...)

I'm happy to have found a place to connect and learn with a group of my sisters and brothers!
So, 'nuf said? Look forward to meeting some of you in the forums!

i am curious your alias, gung-fu? or is it the literal translation of karate-do(which does mean the way of the empty hand, but was at once in japanese chinese hand way.)

Hello again!

Thanks for the welcomes! (haha, 谢谢 Alabaster!)
You are correct jasoncran, it's from the literal translation of Karate-do... :nod Also a reminder to remember the basics, focus, and keep things simple!

lol. which particular style of karate-do. i no longer take traditional arts, few do it the way its meant to be. its either water down and made into a kid art , or philosophy. i prefer real applications. kata doesnt bother me, but in reality nothing works out the way you train or plan.

Hello again again!

It's Shotokan. Yes, I very much agree, I think we've lost something (O.K., alot of something!) by watering it down and turing it into a fitness or philosophy class, kid's club, or even a sport... :shame Don't get me wrong, I think starting young and keeping active and mindful is great, but there is (or was anyways...) more to it than that.
I'd certianly be interested in hearing any tips you might have on making it a little more true to life (probably best discussed elsewhere though)... I'm just realizing now in China the kind of shape my Karate was in! :nono2

Cheers!

i thought so. i did a shotokan variant called ryokakai karate-do. i am a shodan. but i dont do it anymore. here its as i stated sport or philosophy.the hombu dojo is too far to be worth it for me and my old sensei is retired.

mma is more my thing.

what is your favorite kata? i liked sei pai, and also goju shiho-dai, and saiuchin. basai -dai i hated and also sanchin and the naihanchi series.

well for first. i would say look at what the attacks are and adjust the training to them.this means do more on knife stuff or ground game!

Hey again jasoncran! Long time no chat!

Sorry about the delay... I'm pretty behind on all my internet based activities at the moment... :shame (actually as per usual as of late...)
I'm gonna move this over to "Sports" (for lack of a better heading...) so as not to continue bumping the new members.

Talk to you there!
