[__ Science __ ] 2 oceans won't mix

Ok, but I didn't see any of these pertinent links in any of the posts. Anyway, this became a side issue, as the OP is addressing oceans mixing, and that's 1/2 of my post. Also, sorry you responded so fast and didn't get to see my edits.

Well if you watch the video...it's very clearly and scientifically laid out as to why. The Earth rotates. It doesn't stop. Jacques Custeau was involved in some of this research.

All was clearly laid out. Wasn't a lot of wiggle room.

Since they didn't include deep currents in their analysis, it's incomplete. And like I said, just because river water doesn't immediately mix with ocean water, that doesn't support their idea, since it eventually does mix. And that was half the video. I'm just saying that their conclusions that oceans don't mix is suspect. If you have some scientific explanation beyond what they say, then please share it. I'm curious what they do with deep currents, as it seems to me a contradiction.

Ok...they didn't include bird migrations either...

But yes, they covered deep currents. You need to watch it again.

You can cut the sarcasm.

I went thru the video again, and still don't see where they mention undersea currents. Can you help me to find it? Pls cite the # of minutes into the video.

Again, I say that 1/2 the video talking about how rivers don't mix "for some time" doesn't support the oceans not mixing, since they eventually do mix, as the narrator states. Ok, so there is a salinity barrier between the Pacific and Atlantic. That doesn't mean the water isn't mixing, it only means the salinity isn't mixing. To claim that contamination can't mix between the oceans is extrapolation and speculation. I would need to see further evidence to accept this conclusion as more than an urban legend.

Salinity is a measure of how much salt is desloved in water.

So your sentance makes no sense.

The difference in salinity will delay the water mixing but will not stop it mixxing for ever.
The same can be said for different levels od sedimentation and other disloved chemicals.

Once they have evened out by a slow process of mixing the two oceans or river and ocean will have mingled and be one body of water.

The highlighted quote is precisely my point.

So get a mixer the size of the state of New York and...
