5 second rule?

Have any of you ever heard of the 5 second rule? It's when you drop something on the floor or ground and wait 5 seconds before eating it. Some believe the germs are dead by then and safe to eat. Is that true?

I think it is true. The germs haven't attacked the food within 5 seconds - 20 seconds if the food is chocolate. :lol

It's not true. Germs that enter the food will stay with it, and for a lot longer than 5 seconds.

However, it might me wise to wait for 5 seconds. In that way you might avoid cussing when you dropped it.

I thought the rule was that if it's been on the ground longer than 5 seconds you shouldn't eat it, but if it's been there less then it's ok? :confused

Either way, if it's on my floor at home I'll eat it, if it's in a public place I won't.

Hey some of us griller will throw something back on the grill that spent less than 5 secopnd on the ground won't we?

I agree with Caromurp. At home, yes, after I check for dog or cat fur. In public? NO WAY. Too risky...

true but in the army it's thirty seconds in the woods and the owner forfiets and it becomes first grabbed first eaten, as that's a saying though some have done just that, after bout 4 days of smelling urself not much else can be nastier, thank god that a lots changed and they allow and encourage(rather supply portable showers and or what i remember whore baths and baby wipes)

Just thought i add my two cents

To state the obvious, that is not the five-second rule.

I checked out the link and I don't see any disagreement in my defintition. ;)

Anyways, anything that makes it to the floor before making it to my mouth makes it to the seagulls! :D
