A Fig Tree Cursed - No Warning For This Generation
When Jesus Christ cursed the fig tree, and later it withered and died, Jesus was not only conveying a judgment against Israel but he was also indicating that there will no warning.
Look at Matthew 24:32-36 where Jesus uses a fig tree as an example of an early warning where the seasons of fruit growth reveal God's readiness to act. But now look at Mark 11:12-20 where Jesus curses the fig tree and then goes to the Temple to throw out all the money changers -”And as he taught them, he said,“Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’Mark 11:17” Then afterward everyone notices that the fig tree has withered.
Notice that Jesus cursed a fig tree that had no fruit because it was out of season. He then goes to the Temple to throw out all the money changers. The meaning of it all is that Israel will no longer be used by God to convey any future warnings of his judgment. When God, as Jesus Christ, cursed the fig tree God was conveying the reality that Israel lost its right of being judged by God that included a warning or possible plea for mercy!
It is clear that when a nation turns away from God and no longer practices the traditional religious events that occur at certain seasons of the year like Passover/Easter – Day of Atonement/Christmas (hint: the fruit of the fig tree) then God will curse the fig tree as an early warning of God's impending Judgments. As more people shun the Judeo-Christian religion God will remove all his early warning signals (hint: as depicted as a blooming fig tree) by having the fig tree wither and die.
Believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God's son, and then go to church regularly and God will never let you be caught unaware when God's judgment comes to all the wicked!
God Bless
Matthew 24:32-36 New International Version (NIV)
32“Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near.33Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.34Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.35Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
The Day and Hour Unknown
36“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
Mark 11:12-20 New International Version (NIV)
Jesus Curses a Fig Tree and Clears the Temple Courts
12The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry.13Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs.14Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.
15On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves,16and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts.17And as he taught them, he said,“Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’”
18The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.
19When evening came, Jesus and his disciples went out of the city.
20In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots.
