Before anyone gets saved they are dead in sin. Once you've accepted Christ you don't have to fear damnation or what your eternal destiny is. Praise God for that!
Romans 10:9-10
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
( I knew someone who called that the TNT of the Bible - good way to remember where to find it - Ten; Nine and Ten)
Colossians 2:13-14
And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Blot - means to mark or stain something. That's referring to the precious Blood of Jesus Christ shed for you , me, everyone on the Cross. The purpose was to cover our sins or the "ordinances" against us.
Praying for forgiveness is a good idea. Repentance is even better, but also remember we're told to worry about the troubles in one day at a time, so instead of praying for forgiveness for future sins I recommend praying for the Holy Spirit to work in you everyday. Like Ray said above - be Filled with the Spirit!
Matthew 6:34
“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day
is the evil thereof.”
Ephesians 5:18-20
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Praying for you!
