A little of history - Latin

Latin. Language spoken by a small village on the Tiber. It became a Mediterranean wide language when Rome conquered their empire. Our language was influenced by Latin, as many of our ancestors were once part of the empire.

Ditto for Greek. It became influential when Alexander conquered his empire.

English became influential when the Brits conquered their empire. As a former part of their empire, we speak English.
yet Macedonia is different from greek and isn't much like it.

Alexander was ancient Macedonian, not Greek. He was multi lingual though. In Alex's time, Macedon used Greek in their official stuff, and Alexander received a Greek education. The Greek philosopher Aristotle taught Alexander. Alex chose Greek as the official language of his empire.

No one really knows what other language the ancient Macedonians spoke, since we don't have manuscripts using it. Alexander's people later resisted Roman rule. The Romans were not pleased. The people sojourning there today are different people, and use a different language.

did you read that link. they are quoting ancient historians who made that disctinction. uhm you are wrong on that. read the link. the modern Macedonian I met said we don't speak greek.

they never left, they were conquered but after the fall of Yugoslavia, why would a Slavic nation call itself Macedonia it wasn't them same people?

Alexander was not a Slav. Different people.

Either way he didn't trust greeks. Or is Macedonia greek speaking or ever was
two articles I have posted on that. The Macedonians held greece.but not the other way around

The Greeks constantly revolted against Alexander. They wanted freedom.

Alex spoke Greek fluently, as he was taught by the Greek Aristotle. Alex liked the language, even though the Greeks didn't like Alex ruling them. He chose it for his empire.

Aristotle had a significant influence on Alexander.

the last one says he didn't trust the greeks.yes he spread hellenistic culture but his homeland never was Greek speaking.

...his homeland never was Greek speaking.

Never said it was. Only said Alex was fluent in Greek, and liked the language. Aristotle.

Homeland only used Greek for official business, so that they could transact with Greek city states. They spoke some other language at home. Not today's Slavic Macedonian, something else.
