A New Computer Rig

Jason, go to crucial.com and you can see how much RAM it can take there.

lenovo. Pentium Dual cpu at 2.16 ghz and 984 mb of ram. A laptop is what i have. Though i have a gateway desktop.
How do you like the Lenovo? My boss just ordered one for me today; should be in in a few days. It puts yours to shame, sorry to say. ;) But, like Nick and Lewis have said, if you can put more RAM in there, it'll make a difference.

I'm currently typing on my old Dell M70, which has a single core 2.13GHz CPU and 2GB of RAM (maxed) but it isn't nearly good enough for work, hence the nearly fully loaded Lenovo W700. I was actually just looking online today to see if I could upgrade the processor on this one but since it is single core, the only one above it is 2.26 GHz which isn't worth money for a marginal increase in performance.

However, in my research, I came across a guy who upgraded his Dell M65 (newer than the M70). The M65 had a dual core 32-bit CPU which the guy changed out for a faster, 64-bit CPU, for a much greater increase in performance. It's only worth it if 1) it can be done (without further issues), 2) you can do the work, and 3) you get really good pricing on the CPU. Takes a lot of research but there are a lot of forums out there just loaded with how-to info.

the only thing bout lenovo is there will be conflicts when it comes to some things. ie turning on or off the wireless antennae.

it is easily fixed.

Do not underestimate the computational speed of the collective, all those who use the internet have been assimilated. :shades Now to report to the queen.

It's a 120 GB Nick and I am going to take the memory up to 4. And also a terarbyte external drive.
as a side note, a 32-bit OS cannot read more than 3GB of RAM, just FYI...

I thought it was 2GB but I could be wrong. And as I mentioned in another thread, at work my 64-bit XP wasn't using more than 3, even though it could see all 8, but I've had Win 7 to just over 5GB.

I have 2 GB's of RAM.

It is true, Vista and XP on 32-bit can only read 3GB, but I believe win7 could be different, or win8, not sure. But there are advantaqges to having more RAM than your computer can read.
