So if any one be in Christ, there is a new creation, so that if any one is in Christ -- he is a new creature; the old things did pass away, 2 Corinthians 5:17

The phrase above might not mean much to some, but to many it means a lot.

Dear Brethren WalterandDebbie, I'll just give my understanding and that is that as a new creation we possess the new nature of our Savior Jesus which cannot sin in God's eyes.

The emboldened part.....I think that's a Gnostic teaching.

we possess the new nature of our Savior Jesus which cannot sin in God's eyes.
What does that mean?
Jesus ignores our sin?
We actually cease sinning?
We can sin all we want because Jesus doesn't care about our sin any more?
What?

Thanks for this post. I've been praying on this...this and "...washed and made clean..." for a while now. This is --huge-- for me, in my life.

Blot out my transgressions, O Lord, and cleanse me from my sin.

Psalm 51
1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving kindness:
according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me
4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when
thou judgest.
5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Dear Brethren WalterandDebbieWe possess the new nature of our Savior Jesus which cannot sin in God's eyes.
What does that mean?
Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
Eph 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
Eph 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
Eph 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
1 Jn 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but He that is begotten of God (Jesus) keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
Jesus ignores our sin?
Heb 12:8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
We actually cease sinning?
1 Jn 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
We can sin all we want because Jesus doesn't care about our sin any more?
Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
Rom 6:2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
As a son of God my Father sees me in Christ.
Eph 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
Eph 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
Rom 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Rom 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
Rom 6:8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
Rom 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

I'll add to this a bit none other on these boards has acknowledged, but there is a race to be won. The Apostle Paul put it this way:
2 Tim 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
2 Tim 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
Php 3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.
Paul is saved, we're told to follow him as he followed Jesus in 1 Cor 11:1, and Jesus is going to have a bride. What do you suppose winning Christ might mean.

we should be holy and without blame before him
That's because God forgives sin, not because He doesn't see it.
These are talking about the fact that Jesus has destroyed the power of death (the wages of sin) to hold mankind. Christ has made human flesh immortal by His incarnation, death and resurrection. All mankind will be raised immortal and incorruptible. (1 Cor 15)
So those verses are talking about sin as much as thay are talking about Jesus' ransoming mankind from the result of sin; death.
I'll add to this a bit none other on these boards has acknowledged, but there is a race to be won.
Precisely.
It's not a free pass to live on Easy Street.

Restoration comes by handling something with a slow process of perfection. Some people like to restore old furniture to make it look new again. They peal off all the old layers until they get to the bare frame. Step by step they build upon that frame until the whole of perfection and renewal is complete and they have a new creation of something that was old.

This is what Christ does with us as he peals away all the old layers of our past and renews our inner man by His Spirit as he perfects us into a new creation that has been made renewed by Gods righteousness and perfection as we surrender all that is in us and allow Gods Spirit to change whatever needs changing in us. This process is called Gods salvation of saving someone that others might deem unworthy, but God says all are worthy of his grace if they would just come boldly to his throne of grace and surrender all to him.

John 3:3-21 except a man be born again of water and Spirit he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. Vs.6 that which is born of the Flesh is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Flesh cannot perceive the things of the Spirit and is enmity against God, Romans 8:6, 7.

The phrase above might not mean much to some, but to many it means a lot.
What does it mean to you?
How are you a new creature?
My take is that Christ, as the "new Adam" is the progenitor of a new race of God-bearing human beings. Jesus was God in flesh and believers bear within them the Godhead.
