A toss of a coin fleece to God

I am in a perplexing position at the moment. After a year of study and no work I now have the opportunity of working for 2 companies. One I am already employed at because I filled out the forms but haven't started there. The other firm I was forced to do a work trial at for various reasons. This work trial most likely will mean I will be offered employment. The first job I felt the lord lead me into as I got it by just calling up to see what software they use and got called in for an interview. This company is a huge one internationally.

Both jobs are very good and have pros and cons either way. it is hard to decide.

On Friday I prayed God would show me a sign or an answer to help me decide who to choose.

Seeing a nearby 50 cent piece I got the idea for a coin toss.

I thought to myself I,ll ask god to determine the outcome of this being completely at a loss who to pick.

i though I'll make it a hard outcome so I said to god 5 times I'll throw it can you control it and give me an answer. I figured best of five might be fair.

I decided heads was the first company i felt god lead me to originally and tails the second one.

When I threw the coin I made sure of different ways every time, spin bounce of lounge to floor, throw on cushions to floor etc.

Every one of those 5 tosses came up heads. I didn't expect that. Time for fleece number 2 to be sure.
has anyone else had luck with doing things like this?

Right now theres lots of folkswho would love to have your problem. :thumbsup

I think God may have been saying, "Stop tossing that coin or next time I'll make it stand on edge!" :lol

Oh, I gave up on believing in luck 11 years ago, what I was saved. :pray

I have been that person for years..... broke.
I believe what Hitch is saying is, many people would love to be in the position of choosing between two jobs because one job is hard to come by these days. :yes

It is you are right and the wrong choice might have me unemployed again, that's why i put it to god. I am going to blow my future chances with one of those companies when I don't work there and hope the other is the best option. i need the lord to guide me into the right choice.

The first thing I'll say is, do nothing I say! LOL

j/k

I don't like the idea of a work trial. To me, it sounds as though they may have a higher than normal turnover rate and place stock in seeing you work rather than investing in seeing your potential and investing in training.
Just my :twocents

I do like the fact that the other company took interest in you simply because you called with an interest in their software.

the work trial was negotiated by an employment company on my behalf and apparently in 15 years no one has left there

work trials suck coz you don't get paid for all the work you do you just get experience which is defiantly a good thing.

what to do....

Ok, I was wrong. :yes I said to not listen to me. :lol

I do konw what you mean though in times of economic hardship employers sometimes enjoy free labor by desperate potential employees. And some abuse the system like you said.

Back to this I just got the outcome of all this today.

I prayed about it and said god you take care of it make the opportunities occur as you will The other offer was retracted today which means The company that was heads is where I start work. The way it worked out they don't know about each other, which still leaves good impressions.. I hope!

when will I learn to just trust? Funnily going into the meeting I felt God telll me "you are going to that other company as I planned for you in the first place",.so I didn't feel as concerned. I sort of felt that would be why the meeting was called to inform me of where they were going with employment opportunities or lack of now the free labor is ending.. I got some experience.. but you cant spend that!

The idea of this thread is not about boasting of having a job it is about trusting god and how to get those answers to life's forks in the road that we must choose one way or another. The wrong decision can have an impact for decades. this was my fork in the road I really needed guidance with as I am in new territory career wise.,the biggest one for me in years. A lot is riding on it my family needs income.

As it turned out that weird fleece to god was right....who would have thought that could work?

Congratulations on your job! Always good to hear good news.

I'm wondering...since your "fleece" was "best out of 5" and the coin came up heads all 5 times...why did you seek a second fleece?

I have a somewhat differing view on the "forks in the road" decisions...

My best friend is a person who believes firmly that God has a specific course of action for her in everything she does, and she agonizes in prayer over every decision she makes. And if it turns out that bad things start to happen, then she believes that she must have not followed God for some reason (even though she genuinely felt at the time she was).

What I believe is that it really doesn't matter to God which job to take, or which guy to marry (I'm a girl) or which house to buy, etc. I believe that God gives us free will in all these areas, as long as we are applying Godly principles to our decision making process. For instance, I do not believe God would ever want one of His children working for Planned Parenthood. Or for Don Corleone for that matter. But, as long as either company isn't involved in ungodly activities, I think that God is OK with us just going with the one we would prefer to work at, for whatever reason.

Same with marriage. I know a lot of people believe that, from the time they were born, God has one certain person, and only one, who is His chosen mate for them. I don't think that the Bible really teaches this. To me, this seems more like fatalism than Christianity.

To be sure there are times in the course of human history that God takes a direct hand in ensuring that a specific person is joined to a specific event at a specific time, but I believe those are exceptions, not the rule.

For the most part in life, whatever job we take, whomever we decide to marry, whichever college we choose to go to, this is where free will comes in. We just need to walk according to godly principles and be His witnesses in all these things.

That's my take anyway.

Why would i choose a second fleece? maybe because coin tossing is anunorthodox one. It was just the best idea i could think of in desperation for guidance. I thought if God can do that why not again. I also had a sense in prayer that gods provision was that job I ended up with.

YOU are right but about there may not be only one choice but I also think that consulting with god in choices brings about more desirable outcomes in the long term...

i am pretty happy about things working out it is hope after many years of uncertainty.

:lol I have to admit, if it were me, I'd want to see it again, just because of how cool it was!

Oh, I certainly agree, and didn't mean to sound as if I don't believe that we should not take our choices to God in prayer. I was just thinking in terms of thinking that God has a predetermined role for us to play, in the sense of this job or that job, this guy or that guy, etc.

I'm happy for you that things are working out! :thumbsup
