A TV Show About Jesus

I’m not sure if there is a Thread about this here anywhere, but I think we should have a Thread somewhere for People to talk about this, so I’ll start it off and this is actually an ongoing Project so there could even be new things come up and everything. I’ll start off by saying the Series is called “The Chosen”, and it is mainly produced from what I understand by Donations and costs over a Million an Episode or something. Dallas Jenkins is the name of the Creator of the Series and he says that he plans to make it 7 Seasons, and from what I can tell he is using the Bible as the Basis for that. Here is their Website:

In the Show you see Mathew kind of writing a lot, to reflect his kind of almost Obsessive Compulsive Tendencies so like Mathew has the Genealogy of Jesus and things. But the show often can take less than a Chapter, sometimes just a few lines from Mathew and make a whole Episode. I don’t want to ruin the Show for anyone so I won’t give examples, but they create a few Scenarios that aren’t in the Bible, to then make sense of like why this and that relationship exist, but they are People the Bible mentions. They put Jesus at a Campsite a lot and it seems like they made like a Wood and Leather Tripod or something to sit on around Fires and things, but we don’t really know where Jesus slept most of the Time. But if you follow along with the Bible, it’s all there, maybe you could argue about “Jesus didn’t say it exactly that way even in the Bible”, or like (only example, but from Season 2) she says “He told me everything I ever did” but you could say “They added the parts he told her she did, that wasn’t in the Bible” but it makes sense and everything.

The Show seems to be available for Free all over, I would I guess ask that Churchgoers tell Pastors and Church leaders about this Show and they can schedule Times to come together and Watch it, maybe talk about the Bible, do Sermons with it, or just have it on before Service on the Screen where the Lyrics go or something. There are probably DVDs or whatever you can buy to support them and they accept Donations, and knowing about the Show at all will likely lead someone to find out where to Donate, which is the Website I shared.

The Series is available for People in Jail to Watch, they have started bringing Tablets into Jails to replace Books and an App called PandoApp connects inmates to Sermons and Video Education about the Bible and things, and The Chosen Series is available to Watch through PandoApp. So if anyone at all, from YouTube, from having seen it on PandoApp, wherever, this is a place to talk about the Show, or ask Questions, and just have various Discussions about this Series. I will add more Episodes to this Thread so People can find all the Episodes here over Time.

Hi Angelical and welcome to CF :wave2

I really do not care for The Chosen as it is first of all created from the Latter Day Church (Mormon) and much of it is not even Biblical, but theatrical which takes away from the actual characters of scripture like that of Jesus and the disciples and the Doctrines of Christ.

But, to each there own I guess.

I have watched it and I came away with a different feeling. I thought the producers did a nice job of making the disciples and Jesus human. So many productions of this nature give them dull and mundane personalities but they were in fact humans that did laugh, cry, get angry, and just plain have emotions.

We love the Chosen.

The show really brings to life many of the passages about what Jesus did.

What I would say as a Critique is that based on just behaviors it seems like the Writers are like looking at Character Stats, like “Intelligence, Dexterity, Fortitude” or whatever and they have those for each Character or something and you can almost see it in the writing, like Renaissance Fair type like they started with maybe Roman and Jewish Reenactment kind of groups and then build the Jesus and his followers from a kind of Jewish-Roman thing and made their Attributes from the Bible. And, so then like the thing where Simon Peter and the Romans talk about things, and really much of the Roman presence in Capurnum is like kind of Speculative or additional, for example Jesus is questioned and that really isn’t in the Bible until later at the Sanhedrin. But I think they were trying to get to Jesus’ kind of thing where he’s not a Bum, they wanted to show how what Jesus was doing did cause him to kind of gain a kind of Power in the Society, and he was like a kind of Shepherd King and the Romans weren’t necessarily against the Jews having their Religion and things, they just wanted to know they could all still call Cesar Emporer.

But yeah, they can take a few lines from Mathew like I was saying and turn it into an entire Episode by kind of adding things that make it make sense as the Bible parts come up. So the person watching with no Bible experience can say, “Ok, so they know each other” as with Z and Peter, or like how in the 2nd Season the Healing Pool becomes part of Simon who isn’t Simon Peter, but it just helps move the Story along when they add all the parts of Zealot Training and talk about the Zealots as like the “4th Philosophy” or whatever they say in the Show, they added the context so you even know what a Zealot is, then they convert him to a Disciple around the Healing Pool Incident and it all comes together.

I get what you are saying, but I don’t think there is a better Jesus TV Show out. And like others are saying, it does well to Humanize Jesus and the Disciples, whereby an Atheist might say, “I thought God was supposed to be Answering every Prayer the way you asked, or making everything peachy for everyone”, the way they do, they can see how Human it all was.

The Studio that is like Producing the Show is called Angel Studios and they show the Statue of Liberty, which could have been at the Suez Canal instead of by New York. So I think they know a little about maybe some of the Ancient things I’ve been getting into.

But you can watch the Show on their Website or in their App.

And here is Episode 3 & 4 on YouTube.

I think there have also been things happening where they are discovering things around the Sea of Galilee and have been incorporating things in from the Archaeology and everything.

My philosophy is stick with that which has been written, particular in the book of John and Acts. To many Hollywood money bandwagon movies that at times corrupts the word of God.

Just my :twocents

I only watch the first series, but had a few issues, but that's just me. Hey, if it brings others to Christ then that would be a good thing.

I can see the Arguments on both sides. Like, sometimes an Actor might argue their character needs to do more and they kind of might even then forget who they are exactly playing. And it could get too far from reality. But, I think they do well most of the Time to like look at what was common for the Time and doing that. Like Spiced Wines, the Bible didn’t exactly get into all of that too too much. And then like how they got full into the Zealots for an Episode so you knew who Simon the Zealot was. Usually they are on track. Like, I kinda thought the Sons of Thunder thing was weird, but then it is in the Bible kinda for no reason, and is like some inside Joke thing in the Bible. I mean, there has to be some context added just so it can move along.

Just one of those "to each their own" I guess. I don't like going outside or above scripture to line the pockets of others, but that's just me, but you enjoy.

How could you call this just lining Pockets? It’s the best Jesus TV Show being made. Can you name a better one? Disagreeing with like their Philosophy of Ministry and like making some kind of Amish type argument that the World is out there, and we are in this Book, for every Element of creating a Jesus TV Show, is maybe just like too Orthodox. I think even the Catholic Church would take some liberties with a Movie they made, or like who else would be doing this, and who would they reach?

It’s a Show that brings like elements of a Time Period, Jesus’, for a World who hears “Jesus” and they think, “Yeah, like right after Cave Men and Egypt, but before Knights, they had Camels but it was our guys”. With like a bunch of People who seem to have Jewish Heritage who seem to want to make something for Christians, Jews, Muslims, everyone. They’re doing a good thing.

I’m going to bring this up here because we are kind of talking about kind of right now like if something about Jesus is Biblical enough or whatever like they are making Money doing it or whatever, the Pentecostal Movement Happened, and there was a Movement where a Book was written called “Building Christian Communities: Strategy for Renewing the Church”. This Book is about how America used to be more Christian, in the Court case United States v. Holy Trinity, they state “This is a Religious People and have been since our founding…” and goes on to say that no Immigration Law can stop a Church from hiring a Minister. The Book about Building Christian Communities is about how America was founded that way, so you didn’t even really need to go to Church even, it was the Community. Like a Freemason Lodge, a Church is Foundational, like Pioneer stuff. So there was a kind of Christian Community in America, and you didn’t have to look for God. The Book then says that it has become less so, so then the People Speaking in Tongues and saying the Holy Spirit was overcoming them, with the Pope responding by saying that was for Ancient Times and God didn’t do that anymore, until eventually they wrote a Document accepting “Gifts among the Laity”. That group, started saying that if you want to have a God filled Life, you have to create Christian Communities. This is to say Neighborhoods and things based on Churches, or having created the Region together. You could point to like how everyone knows Salt Lake City has Mormons, and they know Utah has Mormons, it is to say that you should do that.

So that’s what the Book “Building Christian Communities” is about, and you know some People said he didn’t use enough Scripture in his Book and that was their only problem with it. But so then that Book lead to the creation of Many, Many Religious Communities around America. We currently have a Supreme Court Justice who is part of the People of Praise who are like a World Class NGO and is kind of not a massive Religious Movement, but a Community of a few Thousand.

And this TV Show could itself be considered to be like one of these things. I always like to Mention Alice Bailey and Edgar Cayce and Guy Ballard and things because I’m like them and it’s a thing America does, I’m like an American Institution come to Life. But the TV Show is like a Book from before, they are Ministering. And they are making Jesus all Man, and all God. They even decided to show him practicing Lines and taking parts out. This TV Show is going to add some perspective, all these Atheists are out here asking why God lets People be Hungry, or why People Die, this very Human Jesus is something that needed to be seen. Some People have no idea.

Sorry, but I have watched other movies about Jesus that did not go outside of scripture. There are many good movies made throughout the years that portrays the life of Jesus. My favorite will always be The Passion of Christ as that movie was reality of what Jesus went through for His great love He has for us.

If you like these series then so be it, but I am into reality and truth without all the flimflam.

They are making a TV Show. 7 Seasons of like 7 Hours, it’s not the same as like 2 Hours about the Crucifixion. It’s a whole different thing they are doing. And we could say Mel Gibson just wanted to make the Jews look bad, since you’re talking about lining Pockets and things. But I’m not going to attack Mel Gibson and the Passion of the Christ. I don’t see how someone could tell People this is like not worth watching, or that they are doing the wrong thing.
