A Woman's Place In the Bible

I only referred to the New Testament. As bible believing Christians, do we believe and observe and practice according to these verses?


1 Corinthians
11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
11:4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.
11:5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
11:6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
11:7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
11:8 For the man is not of the woman: but the woman of the man.
11:9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
11:10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.
11:11 Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.
11:12 For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God.
11:13 Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?

Ephesians
5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

Colossians
3:18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.

1 Timothy
2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
2:15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

1 Peter
3:1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
3:2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
3:3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
3:4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
3:5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
3:6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
 
Welcome to CF Count.No where in the Bible does it restrict women from sharing the gospel or teaching in the Church.1 Timothy 2:11-12 says that women should not exercise authority in the Church such as being a Deacon or a Pastor.
 
Lets remember the Bible Study Forum is not a debate forum...
Not necessarily directed at the last poster....

The written Word of God Says what is says... those verse in the OP are Scripture...

2Co_3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

Heb_10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

Gal_3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. Would you please expound? Thanks
 
Oh boy, one has to study the background of the church at Corinth to fully understand these Scriptures that deal with women. These verses deal with church activities. The early churches were founded by men who have been used to men being superior to women which played a part in early teachings. Later on Jesus, being the real head of the Church, caused the Apostles to see the value of women. Mary and Martha are good examples as well as other women that we see in the book of Acts.

As far as the head covering, we see that in only one church, Corinth. There is a reason for that because they had women becoming converts to Christianity from the Isle of Delphi. They worshiped the Oracle of Delphi who's followers had shaved heads. These bald women who were coming into the church at Corinth and needed their heads covered in a symbol of being in submission to their head, Jesus. If they married, their head would be their husband, some writers say that they would be in submission to the pastor or elder of the church if they were not married. Later on, when their hair grew out, that became their covering.

Oh do explain the other things Paul said about women being prophets in the church setting? What about all the women he mentions, women like Priscella who also taught the young and gifted Apollos? What of Junia who Paul himself calls an apostle?
Try reading this for a little background and different opinions made by Bible scholars.

Not in the RCC, but some churches really do that. Mennonites for example, as far as I know. Personally I use the head cover verse as an excuse for wearing some sort of hat to church (for vanity reasons) and not taking it off during the service. :lol

Amish, too, I think.
 
That last time I was in the Catholic Church they asked me to wear a head covering.But that was several years ago.I know that the Mennonites and the Amish wear head coverings but they are very legalistic.

A good friend of mine is a catholic and I went to his church's mass a few times and they never asked me to cover my head. Neither did all the other women wear head covers. But alost all church denominations required women to cover their heads in church in the past centuries (when it was custom for women to wear hats anyway), so maybe the catholics you encountered were just a bit traditionalist.
 
Even denominations don't always practice the same things within themselves, there are different schools of thought.
