Friends,

Read these two verses:

Act 1:15

And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about a hundred and twenty,)

Act 2:41

Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
We see about 120 people and then we see 3000. The problem is, there really wan't a whole lot of time passed by between these two verses. 120 were gathered in the upper room, and by the end of the day, 3000 heard the word? This was just one day, and much of that day happened in the upper room.

I find this truly amazing. Thoughts?

There was a bunch of folks in town for the passover/Pentecost. Chapter 2: 2,10,11

God's timing! These guys heard and took the Word back to their respective lands...

All those people who made the pilgrimage to Jerusalem and heard Peter's speech he gave while on fire for the Lord? It is amazing, but not hard to believe considering everything that had occurred since Christ's Resurrection. And many of those people returned home to their towns with the news they had heard. Clearly, the Holy Spirit was jolting the early Church into existence!

It's been said many times that an evidence of the authenticity of the Gospel is the way lives were transformed and the behavior of individuals dramatically changed. Verse 42 is such evidence.

Do you think there's more to it than that?

There are 50 days between Passover and Pentecost.

Jesus was crucified on Passover and was raised three days later. According to Acts 1:3 we see that Jesus was with the disciples for 40 days. 40 days + 3 Days in the tomb = 43 Days. This would have been 7 days before Pentecost. So we see from scripture that between acts 1:15 and 2:41 was a span of 7 days. Moreso, there was a span of 50 days between the crucifixion and Acts 2:41.

According to Leviticus 23, Pentecost was 50 days after Passover and was a feast of the first fruits.

We see in Acts 2:1 that we are coming to Pentecost. (50 days) which is another gathering in Jerusalem that is tied to Passover as noted above.

We also see that many of the same people who had Jesus crucified were present.

Matthew 27:24-25 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

Acts 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

We started out with 120, and at harvest, 3,000 were given as a first fruit... Not bad.
