Address's

One of my friends was telling me about this experience they had with a stalker. And supposedly finding someone's address is really easy. And she told me that you can find someone's address if you have their IP address, Is this true? I've always been told it wasn't easy to find someone's address do you know Nick

No, they can't find your exact address. They might get your suburb/zip code correct, but won't be able to find your house.

IP address based locations are not necessarily all that reliable all the time due to dynamic IP assigning by ISPs.

I second Nick, here. IP addresses are for computers not actual home addresses. I'd worry more about public information data online. If you are search engine savvy enough (I have a knack for that), you can find almost anyone's real address. I "stalked" an old lady friend that way. Actually I was curious where she ended up after we parted and I was able to find all her addresses and how long she lived at each place (I was amazed how many places she lived in since I last saw her in the mid-80's). She was a private person because her ex-husband used to stalk her so she did not list her phone number or addresses. She's retirement age today and probably would be appalled if she knew I could just walk up to her door and say "hello"-- never remarried (as my parents predicted as she was hurt that badly). Of course I did not really try to contact her. Some things best left undisturbed, especially at her age now.

Getting someone's information online is really easy if you're willing to pay a few dollars. Not even a lot.
There are business's that will do this for you. They even tell you who lives in the house, their age, etc.
It's pretty scary.
If I'm not mistaken, I think you have to live in the same country as the person lives whose address you want.

Just as an aside, you could get the address of any public person.
I got two addresses of a public person. It was very easy.
(to send them a letter).

Here's something I read about. Most of us take photos using our phone and occasionally these photos are posted on social websites or other public places. What most either don't know or pay attention to is that our cameras will often, by default, be setup to record specific information when the photo is taken such as time of day, location coordinates, etc. People can then extract this information for less than honorable purposes. For example, suppose a person tends to take snapshots of their children at a playground and not giving it much thought they do this regularly. A pedophile may be able to determine that there is a pretty good chance the child could be at said park on certain days of the week and at what time is most likely.

I think that police can track down an IP number if a cyber crime is being committed, but no, I don't believe an ordinary person can.

The police can track down more than that. An IP address is actually easy to find supposedly idk.

The only reason that I know that is because I had a past that I really don't like to speak of before I turned to Jesus and yeah, I used to be an idiot and threaten people online and that's when they told me about it. and threatened me with the police. Thankfully I learned my lesson and repented and I'm a whole new person through the blood of Christ since He has washed away all of my sins. :cross

I traced my ip and it came with a map thats not even where I live
Is it in the same city? It's often near you but give or take ~20km. But if you're masking you IP address through a VPN or proxy then it'll of course be off.

To be honest bro I don't think it even the right state lol. Its definitely not a place I recognize.

If you are talking about "Swatting"...yeah...it's a real thing that gets people killed.
And other things that are "stalking with criminal intent".
And the Judges are giving out criminal prison sentences for this.

When I was working on my family ancestry I used a site called mylife.com to look up birth dates and locations. On that site you can find everything about a person if you pay for it. No ones identity is safe anymore as if you are to be found they will find you.

That's true, but luckily for me my actual full name doesn't show up anywhere and that's why I want to keep it that way. I already know this because of the fact that my mother and I both tried googling it and it didn't show up anywhere.

I'm not as tech savy as some here are. But I thought finding your IP address was kind of hard. Am I wrong on that?
Every Web Site you log onto captures your IP address and there are tools used by the Black Hat and if they wanted to, the White Hat Hackers can use to read the Data Bases of sites they crack the Passwords on and they have access to free software to crack the Passwords of all Operating Systems. And with your IP Address there is a method, used by Police Departmens, the FBI and the CIA to put a physical address to the IP Address. Even my Linux System can be broken into with enough effort, it is just much more difficult but it is not impossible
