I had this in the wrong place, it should have been here, So now they finally know for sure where AIDS came from.

How the AIDS epidemic really began

http://nypost.com/2015/02/22/how-the-aids-epidemic-really-began/
1908: Research reveals “AIDS began with a spillover from one chimp to one human, in or near a small southeastern wedge of Cameroon, around 1908,” Quammen writes. The most likely way it jumped species was through a person Quammen calls the “Cut Hunter” — a man who hunted and butchered a chimpanzee infected with simian immunodeficiency virus and was wounded in the process. The chimp’s blood mingled with his through the cuts in his skin.

So we have theories of where it all started. That may help research or it may not. But we need to talk about this crisis.

However, let's not talk about gay behavior in a negative light. Let's just label anyone who links HIV to being gay as homophobic so they'll shut up about it. Therefore not many know the high risks.
Result?

Scientific research by the CDC reveals this.
Between 2008 and 2010 "infections among MSM increased 12 percent..."
4% of the population practicing MSM account for more than half of the people living with HIV in the US.

http://www.cdc.gov/nchhstp/newsroom/docs/CDC-MSM-508.pdf

Because it's not talked about except in hushed tones (maybe) would-be donors for funding research aren't reached.
The risks are either not taught at all to kids or very little or just glossed over. No urgency.

Just like talking about race this too is a problem shoved into the closet like talk of sex was some years ago. And this for the sake of PC or fear of being labeled a racist or homophobic. The silence is the infection's best ally.

Question:
1) Should a person infected make a would-be partner aware of the condition?
2) Would you risk infection on .0028" (.07mm) of latex? (human hair avg... .0039" (.1mm) )

Yes they should tell a would be partner,

I thought this was put to rest years ago. The proof came out. I read copies of the government documents wherein some branch of the government paid 10 million dollars for the AIDS strain to be created between 1965 and...72? 75? something like that. Also, IIRC, the CDC was (is?) actually a biological weapons facility, but they changed the name to make it sound less ominous.

But not to worry, rumor has it that they have things on the shelf that makes AIDS look like the common cold.

With all the information that's been put out since the 80s, contracting HIV through sexual relations should be virtually nonexistent.

Boy when that virus was found out in the early 80's people went crazy. I think Rock Hudson is the reason it cracked wide open. AIDS has been called a curse by God, and I still hear that.

I agree. Before Rock Hudson, very little was said about AIDS.

What can we say that's not already been said?

Not being argumentative, just curious. We've known about AIDS and the risk factors surrounding that disease for the last 30 years and people are still contracting it through unsafe sexual practices.

It seems no one's listening.

That's my point. Anyone speaking of the risks was labeled a homophobe. Yes, detractors of the practice voiced the facts but because those facts and who was voicing them put homosexuality in a negative light that voice and the facts had to be opposed and silenced. Even now when there has been little talk of HIV, the muzzles worked, very little if anything of the facts has been made public by those who support the practice.

Maybe it's better to hide the facts and the high risks involved while applauding the practice with parades, marches and fanfare to the detriment of the practitioners and curiousity seekers dabbling in something they know little about.

They know the risks and choose to ignore them. There's not a whole lot we can do about that.

  • 1920s-50s: Colonial officials were conducting massive health campaigns in Africa to treat tropical diseases. Quammen notes that the treatment for one ailment, caused by tsetse flies, required 36 injections over three years. But hypodermic syringes were rare commodities, made out of glass and metal. They were used over and over again. “Once the reusable needles and syringes had put the virus into enough people — say, several hundred — it wouldn’t come to a dead end, it wouldn’t burn out, and sexual transmission could do the rest,” Quammen writes. Meanwhile, Kinshasa’s population exploded. Between 1940 and 1960, the city grew from 49,000 people to about 400,000.
  • 1960: Belgium abruptly gives up the Congo as a colony as forces led by Mobutu Sese Seko overthrow the government. The Belgian regime, Quammen notes, had discouraged education among its colonial subjects; there were no Congolese doctors. Instead, those ranks were filled by French-speaking Haitians who fled home after the government fell. “Someone brought back to Haiti, along with Congolese memories, a dose of HIV-1, Group M, Subtype B,” Quammen writes.
  • 1969: But how does one infected Haitian lead to an outbreak that, according to 1982 blood tests, results in 7.8 percent of women in a Port-au-Prince slum having HIV? Again, needles. In the early 1970s, a plasma-donation clinic, run by a Miami investor, opened in Haiti offering residents $3 per liter. Shared needles at this clinic likely increased the infection rates in Haiti and shipped the disease to the United States in frozen blood plasma. Research indicates that just a single migration of the virus — either one infected person or one container of plasma — accounted for bringing AIDS to America. “That sorry advent had occurred in 1969, plus or minus about three years,” Quammen writes.
  • 1980: The disease lurked in America for a decade before anyone noticed. “It reached hemophiliacs through the blood supply,” Quammen writes. “It reached drug addicts through shared needles. It reached gay men … by sexual transmission, possibly from an initial contact between two males, an American and a Haitian.” In 1980, Michael Gottlieb, an assistant professor at UCLA Medical Center, noticed a number of gay men suffering from pneumonia because of weakened immune systems. He wrote a short piece about it in 1981 for the Centers for Disease Control newsletter. A similar cluster is documented in New York. At the same time, a group of heterosexual Haitian immigrants in Miami are found to suffer from symptoms similar to Gottlieb’s patients.

so I guess I shall remain banned for life giving blood, even though im a negative.
Yes they should tell a would be partner,
have sex with any males that had sex with a man and well be banned for donating blood for life. doesn't matter if they aren't positive on any stds at all. makes sense to me.

Wait a minute Jason, AIDS is not just a male sickness anymore, millions of women have it I know 3 of them right now.

I know that, but im commenting on the lunacy of the fda on that blood ban. its only males that were partners that had sex with a male since 1977. doesn't matter if the tested positive for any std or aids or not.

Actually, it appears that almost all the first transmissions, and the majority of subsequent transmissions, were heterosexual.

Yes they were. Barbarian. Now on another note they always suspected that it came from Monkeys now they seem to be sure, or are they ?

For a long time, we knew that it somehow came from what we now know as the chimpanzee version of HIV. Over time, viruses and their hosts tend to evolve less virulence, as this usually provides a more stable environment for the survival and transmission of the virus. Chimps don't get as sick on theirs as we do on ours. But it's essentially a brand-new disease for humans.
