[_ Old Earth _] AIDS Since 1908 ?

Yeah, they still get sick, but as the report says:

The findings will allow scientists to study why sooty mangabeys and African green monkeys, for instance, appear to be immune to the disease, and why humans who aren’t treated with drugs are much more likely to get ill or die from an infection with the AIDSnvirus, HIV, than the chimps, Hahn said.

That's my point. Anyone speaking of the risks was labeled a homophobe. Yes, detractors of the practice voiced the facts but because those facts and who was voicing them put homosexuality in a negative light that voice and the facts had to be opposed and silenced. Even now when there has been little talk of HIV, the muzzles worked, very little if anything of the facts has been made public by those who support the practice.

Maybe it's better to hide the facts and the high risks involved while applauding the practice with parades, marches and fanfare to the detriment of the practitioners and curiosity seekers dabbling in something they know little about.
Actually, a lot of LGBT advocacy groups are the main people behind the push for AIDS/HIV education. Most gay media that includes tv shows, Magazines, comics, movies, books, etc that tackle the topic a lot.

The TV channel LOGO runs tons of commercials and ran shows for a long time that were very educational on the virus and disease. Most help lines, support groups, and yes parades/ Festivals have a lot of information on the disease.

Its very rare for someone to be called homophobic for simply saying that HIV is a problem for very sexually active gay men ( Gay women actually are the least likely to contract HIV), whats considered homophobic is when its considered a gay disease when the grand majority of the people who have AIDS world wide are straight men and women in African Countries with horrible healthcare infrastructure.

Another factor is that Sex Ed here in the States is horrible. Many states shy away or just don't adequately teach due to anti condom and birth control methods in many states or abstinence only states. My state is very abstinence only and I didn't really understand most STIs until I took my virology course in college.
