any supplement success stories?

Yeah, there was a period of time when I would take Tylenol and Aleve together for pain. It worked well, but it ruined my stomach for months and literally burned my esophagus. It was like I had acid down my throat every day.

Needless to say I quit that combination.

*As for dyes, everyone should be avoiding dyes as much as they possibly can. Dye is a chemical and it disrupts brain activity.

That's rough. Never taken that much pain reliever before, except back when I'd pop Vicodin recreationally (that carries its own set of problems, of course...).

I read somewhere that a dye...I wanna say a yellow one, maybe I'm wrong...has been semi-linked to attention deficit disorders. Kinda frightening...

Yeah, there are definite links to ADD. I have a friend who's son cannot, under any circumstances, eat or drink anything with red dye in it. It literally makes him go completely nuts. This friend never understood these times when he'd go bonkers and finally narrowed it down to red dye. So she tested it a few times and sure enough...that was the culprit. Since she's figured this out and he's been off red dye, he's never had another episode.

And as for Vicodin...yeah, that can be very addictive. Well, any prescription painkiller can be. I have another friend who had been prescribed Vicodin and became very addicted to it. The funny (and scary) part is, when he finally decided to kick his addiction and get off the Vicodin, his then doctor gave him a hard time about it, still pushing that he should be on Vicodin. A year later after he had beat his addiction and ended up with an injury...his doctor still prescribed him Vicodin again after he said 'no thanks' and even after he explained his past addiction. They don't listen, they just follow 'protocol'.

There was I time when I was processing fish and on my feet for 20 hrs a day in a giant wet refrigerator I was taking 12 Tylenol and ibuprofen a day .That stuff put a whole in my stomach.
Tylenol damages the liver.Ibuprofen damages the kidneys. If you take Tylenol with alcohol you are really asking for it.

I feel kind of strange if I eat something with a lot of food coloring.I never paid that much attention to it.

Yeah, even the over-the-counter painkillers are bad for you. :-/ It's very unfortunate. That's not to say you can't take a pill now and then when you really need it. But in excess...no.

I typically reach for an aspirin now if I really need to take something. I also take white willow bark along with it as that is actually the natural equivalent of aspirin. I believe aspirin contains white willow bark even.

Right... one or two Tylenol once in a while for a headache is fine. But not on an everyday basis without a physicians ok.My preference is Tylenol because Aspirin makes me bruise so bad.I take a baby aspirin every morning for preventative healthcare.

Ahh, that's true about the aspirin. I always forget about that.
I sure hope I never have to be on Coumadin therapy

Kathi: Certain vitamins and supplements act as blood thinners. What I have in mind is megadoses of vitamins C and E. Also, omega 3's. If you notice, whenever you are a new patient at any doctor's office, they ask if you take vitamin E especially. This is because it competes with their prized blood thinners in which Coumadin is basically rat poison. And they know if you take supplements with their drugs, it will double the thinning potency and cause bleeding, which tells me that vitamins, oils and herbs can do just as well by themselves.

Also, to all: a lot of illness(e.g. heart disease, cancers) is based on inflammation, be it viral, bacterial oxidative or whatever. This means we want anti-oxidants in our diets. An ample supply of beta-carotene (a vitamin A derivative), Ascorbic acid and associated bio-flavanoids (i.e. vitamins C and P), cholesterol (a vitamin D derivative), vitamin E (esp natural D-alpha tocopherol) and the mineral selenium are all powerful antioxidants that will guard against heart disease and cancers. And there's a multitude of herbs as well. Even a plain "cuppa Joe" and "black tea", which I drink a lot of, have antioxidants. Just make sure you get good ones as opposed to "instant" processed kinds. Grind your own coffee beans in other words. Good Coffee is good for you.

Thanks Miss Spaulding. I guess it's those years and years of reading those Rodale Books. To me, such stuff is actually similar to the technology field in that it takes the same sort of mind-set.

(As a side-note, you can tell my age calling Bioflavonoids "vitamin P" and in the olden days they called the B-vitamin biotin "vitamin H". -- and the essential fatty acids were vitamin F, today we call them omega 3's and similar. But they knew about this a long, long time back in the days they were deemed health nuts. But now when there's realization of the truth in it, they act like it's a new revelation.) :lol
