Apple launches Smart Watch

Nope. I won't be getting one of those new watches.

Why not? The 'electrical system' in my body kills batteries rather quickly. It's why I cannot wear regular watches.

Hey!! I just posted something about this lady I know that this same thing happens to.

I believe that the same girly men that use cell phones so that can talk on the phone all day just like women do, deserve them. :screwloose

It's not a jolly time, having this inconvenience. Over the years, various gifts from others would be watches. (The givers had noticed I don't wear watches, so they thought I just hadn't gotten around to buying one.) One watch that stands out in my mind was a rather expensive one .... I gave it back to the giver, explaining sweetly that the battery would be done in quickly (within 2 weeks) if I wore the watch, and replacement batteries lasted fewer days. The giver took back the watch, but wasn't happy about it.

Do you also set off car alarms ?:biggrin2

I have, believe it or not! (It was my own car....the car alarm went off while I was driving. Turned out to be a problem with alarm, not me!)
My friend who has the problem with not being about to wear a watch said it is frustrating. She would like to wear one.And she is a nurse. She has to pin one to her scrubs.

It definitely makes life easier when one is able to wear a watch. It is frustrating to not be able to wear one.

I tried wearing a pendant watch ... even had one that was a brooch. Batteries died quickly in those cases as well.

I've been selling these things the last few months and they have actually been out for about 4 years now. Apple just now joined on the band wagon. The problem right now is that they really don't add to much because they are basically just your phone on your wrist, but you have to have your phone on you for them to work. When the "hyped" medical apps android has been talking about for years come out, it could be a cool thing. Until then, I really don't need one and most people don't either.

I see it more of a thing for elderly people that could use them for the heart rate monitors, blood pressure monitors, and reminder apps. Apple however doesn't like to cater to this demographic, they want the younger crowd.

As a kid I would see Scifi movies from the future and they would have these watches on they were talking to.I would think "WOW!!" Well here they are.Would you get one?

No. All I need is a Timex to tell time. And that's if I wear it. Which isn't often.

I read a story like this and recall this report that came out maybe a little over 6 months ago now. A young woman carried her smart phone in her bra. One day she went to have her physical and her doctor found she had benign cysts in that breast where she always kept the phone. And the pattern of these benign cysts were in a little clump that fit the dimensions of her smart phone.

If cysts can develop in the breast because a woman keeps her smart phone in her bra, and one can imagine there's potential for them to develop in the fatty tissue of the buttocks for those who keep the phone on and in their back pockets, imagine what a phone on the wrist can do.

No thanks. Besides, it's bad enough a cell phone can track me now. I don't want a phone that can track me while its on my wrist and quite possibly be accessed in the little camera thingy so that some hacker, or Apple themselves, can see where I am.

After all, Apple is the company who's inner workings for their computers are made by a foreign manufacturer,Foxconn, who's employees make records committing suicide. They're also the company who created the application, 'find my friends'. So that anyone who knows your cell number can enter it into their phone and track you via GPS without your knowledge or permission.

They're also the company who was recently in the news having created an attachment piece that can scan via infrared heat censor, the keypad on an ATM machine or a point of sale machine at the store, and record your card ID and PIN.
Apple is probably a hackers best friend. It sounds like it so far anyway.

The smart watches actually don't have RFID chips or SIM cards in them. They are basically glorified Bluetooth devices.

This, exactly. Phone will always have to be in reach, so there is little point to having one. Not to mention that it is one more thing to distract drivers, and it will make for an easy but significant distraction.

Well, that app can be turned off. Not that it matters though. There was some uproar in the last few weeks regarding Facebook's messenger app which would give FB access to all sorts of information, but most people don't seem to know that Google has been doing this for some time now. Check the settings on almost any Google app and it will show that, by default, Google has permissions to access emails, texts, location, contacts, and pretty much everything else, without your knowledge.

You can disable some Google apps but if you are unfortunate enough to have an Android phone, like myself, you cannot disable the Play Store, which has all those permissions set.

To be fair, it isn't an Apple product. It's a case made by another company and could probably be made for most any phone. I think it would be a cool product with all sorts of fun and useful applications, but for each one of those, there will be at least one application for less than honest purposes. Of course, it is possible that phone makers, including Apple, will build this capability into future phones.

I don't understand all this technology stuff. IPhone 6, watch, blueteeth devices, smartphones.

All I need is a warm bed, some hot chocolate and some Sanford and Son.
