Are there any GOOD "Christian Metal" bands?

Society really looks down apon christian metal mostly because the people who listen to metal arent christian. No matter what, dont let anyone insult anyone for listening or being in a christian metal band.
But a lot of people become Christians listening to Christian music, even if it is metal, Metal is not for everyone but, God gave everyone different taste. I am 50 years old and I still listen to metal, if it is not tainted, like I had to throw out all my Black Sabbath collection. But I am a drummer and I get into all types of music.

38th Parallel ?

Before people start quoting me stuff like Bride, Guardian, Whitecross etc let me just add i've got well over 100 "Christian Metal" CDs and about twice as many secular. I tend to listen to mostly secular stuff (i.e Kamelot, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray to name a few) simply because I find the quality of the music to be far superior. I've been a Christian 18 years and have come to realize the music you listen to does have an effect on your level of spirituality. Being a person who's had a lot of "stuff" to work through I have often wondered to what degree music reinforces a Christians worldly patterns of behaviour. Mind you, when I am feeling really oppressed i'll listen to a bit of praise music but find i need to go back to some (secular) quality metal after a (short) while. I've found that the recent handful of Christian metal purchases i've made lately have been either low in quality or low in spiritual content (and usually not cheap). Is there a Christian equivalent to Blind Guardian out there?

Have you ever listened to 38th Parallel? I'm not really into heavy metal, or punk that much, but 38th Parallel has some good quality music and a good Christian message. My oldest son likes POD, but we've put their music on hold for awhile. I need to research some of these supposedly Christian bands ....

Christian mmetal Praise & Worshi

joejoevox: Thanks so much for sharing the webpage to the music of Hovland!! Wow!! That is some super awesome worship music!! I am putting their music on my list to order soon. Do they have only the one album?

I'm sure that my oldest boy will want to take their music to share with his youth group at church. They let kids bring in their favorite music and play some of the selections. They even play Christian music videos before the youth group starts. Which brings up another new thread --- Christian music videos, and where/how to get ahold of them? Any suggestions?

Internet Christian Music Radio Stations

I have a few Christian, Metal internet radio sites on my website in the, 24 Hour Internet Gospel Radio thread, on the forum page.

http://www.revelation21.net/index.shtml

Lewis W: Thanks for the link to your message with links to more Christian Radio stations! I have several saved to Windows Media Player, and one to my new updated RealPlayer! Finally, RealPlayer is working on my iBook G4. Don't know why I've had so many problems with RealPlayer on my iBook G4. RealPlayer has always worked much better on my very old PowerMac 7300! Strange.

We're getting some good Internet Christian music radio stations, which come in much better than local radio. There are six radio stations about 1 1/2 blocks away from us!! Too much interference ...... so Internet radio is the best solution for us.

If you like hardcore music, check out...

Norma Jean

The Chariot

As I Lay Dying

Not exactly Metal, but good music, none the less.

Blindside is very good and I just found out this morning that they had a new album out last August. I have their previous two and they are quite good.

Found out about a week ago that Benparkdrive got to oppen up for Stryper locally:)

I recommend the Old Blindside CD "A Thought Crushed my Mind"(total metal), Underoath, Still Remains.. More if you don't like those.

Demon Hunter is terrible.

You want some good metal that is Christian and straight up worship?

Check out "Impending Doom". Amazing.

 ... you're the first person I've ever met who likes hardcore/metal but doesn't like Demon Hunter. Curious, what don't you like about 'em? The vocal style... the fact that they make it more accessible with normal vocals? The music style?... the fact that they aren't really metalcore like say... Zao (awesome metal).

I was a huge fan of the Clark brother's first band TFU (Training for Utopia). Hard to imagine that I'd like Demon Hunter better but I think I do. Plus I'm getting older so its nice to change up the hardcore with contrasting downtempo songs like 'The Tide Began to Rise', 'One Thousand Apologies', 'Heart Strings Come Undone', 'Deteriorate', 'My Throat is an Empty Grave', and 'Infected'.

If you like industrial metal try Argle Park, Klank, Circle of Dust or Chatterbox.
Project 86 has some great metal too along with Blindside who were mentioned earlier.

Demon Hunter just makes me cringe. Ryan Clark should've stuck with Focal Point, they were awesome. I just don't like how they incorporate some metalcore/metal/experimental/and then ALOT of nu-metal. I despise nu-metal.

From the sounds of it, older Living Sacrifice, older Tourniquet and Mortification must rate highly on your list.

I've always been more of a fan of the newer metal/hardcore than the older stuff. Zao is probably as close as I get to your kind of metal. I forgot about Focal Point they had a good sound, not my kind of vocals though.

Living Sacrifice was good. I wasn't too keen on Mortification. Six Feet Deep was pretty intense when I was 12.

Some other bands I would recommend checking out:

- Extol (specifically their album: Undeceived)
- Bloodlined Calligraphy (metalcore with a girl vocalist, pretty intense)
- Plague of Sheol
- Theocracy AD
- Repentance
- Harmony (if it hasn't already been said)
- Impellitteri
- Narnia
- Shining Star
- Immortal Souls
- Seventh Angel
- Enlow
- Adora
- Holy Blood
- Winter Solstice
- Strongarm
- Embodyment
- Bringing Down Broadway
- Kingston Falls
- IMPENDING DOOM

Impending Doom is great.

Hey, I meet the second lol. I don't hate DHunt, I just don't think they're that great. They barely even scream, just sorta... Growl... Lol and they're kinda light. But anyway meet the second, lol.

You'll have to check out TFU then, they were all chaos-core. Great hardcore music. I guess I have to face the fact that I'm getting older and need a little more melody in my music... . Love that soft Demon Hunter song 'The Tide Began to Rise'. But I can understand why they are trying to be more accessible to people, especially if they have aspirations of making a living at being muscians. Straight hardcore doesn't really sell to the average Joe. It definitely has a smaller loyal diehard fanbase but the doesn't always pay the bills you know!?

I like all different kinds of music though, from hymns to classical, goth to industrial, pop to hard rock... and so on. Rap and country are probably the two that I'm not really a huge fan of but like some hybrid styles that branch off.

Training for Utopia was good, but Focal Point is as good as Clark will get.

I know way too much about music. My job right now is that I book shows for an all-ages venue, so I see all kinds of bands all the time. Need any other suggestions, just let me know.

I guess that depends on who you ask. I'd bet Demon Hunter is by far more known than anything prior, that undoubtedly has everything to do with the music being more accessible.
