Are titles necessary?

People love titles these days. I do not think it gives glory to God. I do not condemn you being identified with any...but.

I used to hear, 'Father'. Something has been attached, and that is, 'Reverend' Thus, 'Reverend Father'

This is not enough to some who went ahead and added: Very.
You now have 'Very Reverend Father'
There are other amusing ones like:
Hon. Dr. The great Dearly '...'
Anointed Dr. '....' The great
etc.

Christ never used titles. 'The Son of Man'

You mean my kids should stop addressing me as "Oh Great Mother, Queen of My Heart and Giver of All that is Delicious!" ? I will miss that.

Nooooooooooo! This is quite different. There is nothing wrong with it when your children call you those. They could even add 'honey' mother, 'groundnut' mother, 'sugar' mother , joy of family, one in a million, treasure island, goddes, the miracle hand that does the great dish which gets the husband wondering, the key to dad's stronghold, mother of dad, candy, etc

I only wonder if it is necessary for 'pastors' etc to take such titles

LOL. Sorry for the tangent. You ask a good question. And it speaks of one's self view, doesn't it. Why, indeed, ask people to call you "Reverend" or "Honorable". It's the deeds that matter, not the title.

Tangent? It makes it more interesting:D
Deed truly matters...and pompousity irritates.

I have a professor in my church who is so humble. Dude washes toilet for members. He does not care about 'prof', he likes 'Mr'. Not bad. He has done many wonderful things for People.

:lol Once when forcing a horrid task, clearly in violation of child labor laws, and making my kids do it over and over and over until they got it right (namely making them make up a bed with bedskirt, sheets, blankets, comforter and pillows with shams) my son cried out, "I give up, I bow to your mommieness!!!"

:D Now, :topictotopic

It used to really grate on me, that whole "Very Right and Honorable Reverend Such and Such"...doesn't really bother me all that much any more, but I have to admit...I've known some who have risen quite high in church hierarchy and some who are just plain old ministers...and the ones worth their salt tend to want to be addressed just as plain old Pastor.
