Growth Are you in the midst of a Trial?

That's true, but it is how we react to that trial that defines us. We can be positive about it or whine about it.

I agree with that completely. I read a saying once, forget where I seen it but it stuck. It goes like this; Life is 10% what it hands to you, and 90% how you react to it.

I thought that was very profound. In my experience, the key to it all seems to be to not over react. I've had trouble with that in the past and am learning to take a deep breath. Don't react right now. Sleep on it, think on it. Most times doing that will show the situation in a much different light and better ideas of a proper reaction will surface.

Writing on a forum is a great example. When someone gets snippy towards you in a post for whatever reason (had a bad day, misunderstood, whatever) it tends to perhaps make one angry or at least frustrated. Instead of reacting immediately, which usually escalates it, you can sleep on it and come back to it later. Respond to the actual topic instead of the emotion de-escalates it and you can make your point. If you happen to be right, this may still make the other angry, but that's his problem. At least you didn't throw kerosene on the fire. Other times, maybe they will hear you since you didnt respond emotionally and you could perhaps even edify them and do a good work.

Your ability to react to life in one way or the other is part of what is handed to you.
Ask anyone with a mental illness and they may agree with that oh so profound statement and punch you the next moment. Because your wisdom makes no change for them.

Sorry, had a bad day. Really wanna smash something right now.

Did that anger you? I'm sorry, just something I read once. I think our ability to do things is enhanced or impaired by our outlook and/or attitude. You get what you say. power of the Word. I think that's the basis for the be optimistic classes they push.

The military teaches our young men to be courageous by getting them to pretend and speak so. They say act as if you are courageous, then soon you will be. So when we speak negatively of ourselves, (even from just having a bad day) it reinforces it in us that it is so. We need positive reinforcement and should speak so to ourselves. :)

Well it angered me because it's true, but out of reach for me. Outlook/ attitude are a result of your past life experience, and it's hard to change them. Thus those wise phrases make me feel even more like a failure because I can't do what they suggest.

May I suggest that you think positive and praise the Lord for everything He has done for you? There are to be two praises and thanksgivings for victory!

"And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the Lord: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day. Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the Lord had made them to rejoice over their enemies. And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the Lord" (vv. 26-28). There are two sections to our praises and thanksgiving. One section happens before the victory, and the other section happens after the victory. The great mistake that we make today is that we do not have the praise that is uttered before the victory; we hold back this praise and wait to see what happens. Many brothers and sisters have acknowledged that they cannot make it and that they will not try to make it. They have believed in God's facts and believed that Christ is their victory. But they dare not say, "Hallelujah, I have overcome." One brother said that he had to wait and see whether it would work. Another sister said that she had to wait and see whether it would produce the right result. They were saying that they would praise God the next day if they saw some results. But Jehoshaphat had two praises. Every overcomer should have two praises: praises before his eyes see the result and praises after his eyes see the result. This is the tone of victory. As soon as we stop our praise, we are defeated and we lose our victory.../ http://www.ministrysamples.org/excerpts/TWO-PRAISES-AND-THANKSGIVINGS.HTML

I proved this to myself just the other day. I was in a tight spot. A very tight spot. I knew it was coming and couldn't be avoided so I prayed about it and was given to praise the Lord as if I had already had a victory in it. (we do actually. The price is paid, the Words and promises are already spoken, we just have to really believe that and receive them) So I began praising the Lord for victory in this situation and glorifying God for what He does for me. Not only did I make it through it, the Lord turned it around in such a way that it became a mighty blessing upon me! The Word says He will do it. He will. I believe it more than ever now, and am beginning to really understand faith and how it works. Nothing wavering. Belief and Praise, and anything is possible. Speak the words, praise the victory and receive it with joy in your heart and praise to God on your lips. You will have healing.

I pray for you a lot Claudya, and will continue to. This healing and power will come to you. Stop telling yourself that you can not do this. In fact, you can not do this, but the Lord can...and will. He loves you, and will give you anything that you believe that He will. Praise the Lord for this, and watch the power of God manifest itself in your life!

The Lords power be upon you Claudya. :)

The Lord is our refuge and our fortress. No weapon formed against us shall prosper. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. To God be the glory who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. For He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]. What then shall we say to [all] this? If God is for us, who [can be] against us? [Who can be our foe, if God is on our side?]. The Blood of Jesus has done it all. Let these words of God not depart from your eyes ever!

Is something that happens for years still a trial?
Trials are usually less than seven years. Tribulations are more than seven years. Trials produce patients, so count it as all joy. Tribulations produce perseverance, that produce character, that produce hope. All Christians will be tested. Take refuge and seek the Kingdom of God first.
