Armageddon or Harmagedon

So, despite the fact that the use of Armageddon only appears in Revelation 16, that the word itself most likely derives from har-megiddo--"mountain of Megiddo"--and in the context of Revelation 16 nothing of Zion is mentioned, you all still want to think that it refers to the gathering of Christians?

It is a gathering all right but it is a gathering of armies at the location of Megiddo for the purpose of battle.

It is a gathering but the gathering is spiritual and ongoing until...it is done.

Sometimes scholars make mistakes. The armies of the world gather against Zion, not Mt Megiddo. There is no mountain called Megiddo. Megiddo is a valley.

The purpose for discouraging Christians in believing in Zion is so that it wont take root. The seven stars who belong to the seven lamps are Zion. They are the seven eyes upon that one stone.

That's right, there is no mountain named Meggido. The alluding amounts to bringing the reader into the understanding of what actually happened in the mountain that overlooks the valley of Meggido - http://www.bibleprophecytruth.com/topic ... Armageddon

This is another description of that final conflict called Armageddon. The valley of Jehoshaphat is just another title for the place of battle. It will involve every nation on earth. The “heathen†is a term to describe those who are not God’s people. Satan will marshall the kings of the earth and all the wicked people to oppose the faithful saints of God. The Lord will be involved in the battle (“The Lord shall roar out of Zionâ€), because He fights for His people. In essence, it is a tremendous contest between Christ and Satan with followers of both sides being involved. Here is where we get to the heart of the subject. The verse calls attention to the Hebrew word for Armageddon. Apparently, the word is rooted in the Hebrew term “har moed,†which means “mount of the congregation†or “mount of the assembly.†Do you see where this leads us? That same term (har moed) was used by Satan when he said, “I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation.†This ties the battle of Armageddon to the original threat of Satan to capture and destroy the congregation of God—in mount Zion.

And the final attempt of the evil one to carry out his threat reaches down to the very last events of this earth. John the Revelator described it under the sixth plague. He saw unclean spirits going out to the kings of the earth, working miracles, and gathering them to Armageddon. These are religious forces working on the political rulers and influencing them to destroy God’s faithful ones.

The seven stars are angels (messengers) and the seven lamps are the churches through the time of the end.

Rev 1:20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

I have addressed that already. Being that Megiddo is in a valley and that there are mountains around, there is absolutely nothing wrong with har-megiddo meaning "mountain of Megiddo." In fact, that makes the most sense, especially considering that Megiddo is an actual, physical location. There is no need to go spiritualizing all this stuff.

Satan gathers his followers as Christ gathers us. We don't actually go to a literal location. For instance, those that "take the mark" do so spiritually. They believe his deception. They are on his side of the battlefield and don't know it. God uses us, speaks through us, to open eyes and ears so we bring them to His side. That is the sealing that must take place before the end.....

  • Revelation 7:3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

That is the gathering of Armageddon. The evil forces gather against Jerusalem and Zion. We ARE Jerusalem or Zion in this spiritual war.

  • Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Now the other battle...Gog/Magog, is, I believe, a literal battle!

What basis do you have for saying one is a literal gathering and one is not? You really seem to be arbitrarily defining things.

You're right...I am but it is what I see. Armageddon I always saw as a literal battle but just a few weeks ago I suddenly understood. Consider that where it is written...."spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty," is taking place world wide, gathering them world wide. Armageddon is simply the culmination of the gathering.

It was interesting to me to have MDO757 show what he has in this thread. It is Zion that Satan battles and we, His elect, are the spiritual Zion.

On the other hand we have the battle of Hamon-gog. In Ezekiel the combatants are given as well as where it will take place. Everything I read tells me it is a literal battle that God will fight...against Russia on American soil. But, I thought many things were literal until I saw differently.

When it was revealed that Armageddon was an ongoing spiritual battle I wondered if the reason it is shown in Revelation, where much, if not all, should be taken spiritually and the battle of Haman-gog was taught in Ezekiel was because one was spiritual and the other literal? I don't know Free, I can only tell you what His Word reveals...as He reveals.

This is one of the reasons forums such as this are so vital to His children. This is our gathering, our time to learn and teach. We can share what He has shown each of us so we all learn...as has MDO757. He gives each of us different cuts of meat...for us to share.

The Seal of God is the testimony of Yahshua and the keeping of Yahwah's commandments. The Elect know God's name as Yahwah; that is the name in their foreheads. We are known by what we think and do. The right hand symbolizes the works we do, and in the forehead is where our thoughts are stored. The Mark of that (Beast / Nation) in their foreheads is what they think, and they are also Marked by what they do by their right hand. All are known by what they think and do.

I interpret Armageddon as a one-time spiritual battle in the heavenly dimension, when the vail of covering spread over all peoples is removed (like Isaiah 25 and 1 Cor.15); it's part of the 7th trumpet events of Christ's return, God's consuming fire burning the elements (man's works) off the earth per 2 Pet.3:10; Christ coming as a thief in the night, the midnight hour in the parable of the ten virgins, the time of the resurrection of the dead saints which Christ is to bring with Him per 1 Thess.4.

God hinted at that event in the Old Testament Books of His prophets. In one place in Isaiah, a Hebrew expression is given like a half-empty bottle being turned upside down, and it makes this gluk, gluk, gluk sound with its contents being poured out. In another example, how the experience will be for the wicked, it's like starving and dreaming of all sorts of food and drink, only to wake up out of the dream and being even more hungry. Some pretty deep felt emotions are conveyed.

I too believe the battle of Hamongog is a specific battle to a specific people and area on earth, while Armageddon is symbolic of a total end of this earth age, ushering us into Christ's literal earthly "thousand years" reign of Rev.20.
