Attention all Microsoft Users

There's a lot of virus stuff going around again.

And here:

So much for all the hype a few months back of that one virus that the Mac's supposedly had.

We eat a lot of eggs here in this household. If anyone who uses Microsoft wants me to ship the shells to walk on while surfing the net just let me know. :lol

Well Tim my brother, I can't argue with you about the virus prone Windows, but it is still a great, great operating system. And Windows 8 is going to be hard to beat.

If 'you' have to run Windows, why oh why are 'you' still using Internet Exploder? :confused.

Tim, on a related note, how is Symphony compared to Open Office? I'm thinking of installing it on my Ubuntu install. I'd love to completely get away from Office too on my work PC.

Touche, Vic. Why anyone still uses it is a mystery to me. I even got my grandad onto Chrome. That was an achievement. :D

I have chrome on my mac, but my windows 7 uses Opera and I like it so far. I switched from chrome only on principle.

Don't know. I use Libre (that came with the OS) and works just as good as MS equivalent Word and Excel. Whenever I don't like software, I'm quick to try another. I've been trough 3 calculator programs before I found one I liked. I like none of the astronomy programs and one is downright buggy (you can use online calculators and planetariums that are pretty good). But I had no reason to even try another office program like Symphony since I'm extremely happy with Libre.

Tim...

You remind me of dude who has been convinced acid is in the rain and stays in his house for years, afraid of getting burned. Wake up, man!! It's 2012!! I'm not afraid of the polio virus, and I'm not afraid of the dreaded "Microsoft virus". :lol

I'm also not afraid of the sky falling down or my roof coming down. You're sounding like a fear-monger. I don't know anyone who has had a virus. Guess what! There's no acid in the rain, after all. We're in the rain, and it feels fine!

The moon isn't electric.
Venus isn't cancerous.
My goodness! The air is not toxic!

I don't know what horror stories have contributed to you deluded paranoid feelings of the cyber-space, but guess what? It turns out the air is not toxic! I can go out and look in the sun, and it doesn't kill me!

Wake up, man! Slap yourself out of it! Virus free. That's how I be!! :)

Mike, I've just been there and done that not all that long ago in Microsoft infested virus world. Why pay good money for an operating system and then get a virus every other turn at the drop of a hat like I always did and like my weekly phone-calling sister-in-law did to come "fix her computer"? I don't think you understand. Viruses stress me out a lot with intense anger. I can't handle them. But there's OS's that can handle going on web sites without the egg shells as I jokingly pointed out.

More so than asking about my deluded paranoid feelings of cyberspace, I think it would be more fitting to ask why there's this unquestionable cult-like devotion to Microsoft amongst the masses. I don't understand why everyone's hitting their heads with a 2 x 4 of sorts. And BTW, along that line, despite the state of the nation, Obama will get in again. :lol

One other thing......I have no problem with nature so that's a bad analogy with me. Just read my health sections posts. It's the medical world et al that spread paranoia about the sun, saturated fats, cholesterol, salt and against similar healthy stuff like that. I take that all in.

Thanks. I did install Symphony anyway. It's nice and cleanly laid out... to clean actually. Many functions have to be accessed through right-clicking. Not a big deal, but it's a little counter-intuitive at first.

I'll try Libre too. :yes

Yeah, from what I can see, Libre is about as advanced as say, Word 2003 or something like that (IMO) in that it's laid out similar, not in tabs at the top like in Windows 7. But then again, that's advanced enough for me --- there was nothing wrong with the number of features Microsoft had back then. Libre can still do some fancy word processing, lots of features, make web pages, macros (and so can their spreadsheet and "office impress" the equivalent of powerpoint) --- that's more stuff than this ol' man ever learned to begin with. I believe it has everything that 99.9% of the people would ever think of using. And hey, it's free so who's complaining? Especially since it works very well.
