Baby on the way, kinda scared

Hey guys. This is my first time posting on here. I'm a new member, but I've spent some time reading a lot of the forum posts.

This doesn't need to be a long posting, but I just wanted to talk about some stuff. See what you all had to say.

I'm going to be a new dad, and I'm kind of scared. Not at the idea of parenthood. But at the fact that I'm bringing a soul into the world, and I'm terrified at the idea that this child might not truly know The Lord the way I do...

I was wondering if anyone has any scripture and advice about this type of thing? I've read a lot of the Bible in my life, but having never been a father, I never put much importance in any scripture that talked about the topic.

Thanks!

Hello, and welcome to CF.net! AND CONGRATULATIONS!!! :wave

I'm a father of 3 myself, and have long had the same fear you do, because when I was a child, God was something that simply wasn't discussed in my house.

I apologize because technical issues have made work the only time I have internet access, so I must be brief, but I will begin with Proverbs 22:6.

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

Granted, my oldest is only 7, but one thing I learned very early is that you have to trust your children, and this passage is one that I cling to on an almost daily basis. As their father, it is my job to raise them to the best of my ability. After that, it's up to them. I know that's difficult, but that's the way it has to be. You simply have to do the best you can, and then trust them to do the right thing on their own. One thing I can promise you is, as long as you do your job (which I have no doubt you will, and you shouldn't either), they will do theirs.

I think this will have some good spiritual advice for you.

Hi, Diovivente ..... welcome to CFnet ... and congratulations on the upcoming son or daughter!

Something you can easily do from the time your child is born: read to him/her from the Bible! Babies love to listen to their parents talk, and being read to is also of fascination to them. As baby grows more, you can buy a Children's Bible, with colourful pictures, and read from there as well.

This not only introduces our Lord to your child, but also shows your child that you love our Lord. And...reading is so essential to us all. Great beginnings!

Congratulations, dad! Your life is about to change in ways you never thought possible...for the better. Being a dad is awesome!

Don't worry so much, you'll do fine. Your life is your ministry. Live your life the way God wants you to. Your kid will be watching, and God will be working in his life.

I am a Dad to be as well. You are not alone in your nervousness. I too am worried about raising children of God. I got some good ideas from here, and will continue to check back for more. I have TWO little ones on the way. A boy and a girl. I would love to share anticdotes on whats good, and what is not. Good luck, and God bless you, and your family

I agree with a lot of what Mathew said with a few exceptions. 1. I trusted our sons to try everything we shouldn't have done. I realized they wouldn't be perfect. I prayed a lot for wisdom as to how to respond to thè situations that would come up. I resolved never to correct them in anger but always to do what was best for them with eternity in mind. And I didn't wait for dad to get home. The sooner they were corrected the better. We chose to back each other not to allow them to work one against the other.
Then, after we had done all we knew how to do, I gave them to God. I asked Him to lead them correct them and be their Father. They had been loaned to us, and we gave them back to Him. It would be by His grace alone if they were to serve Him.
Yesterday one of our sons, who is now 45, gave me a card thanking me for my prayers and for helping to give him a godly home. There dad became the Godly example they needed. Kids do what we do, not what we say. Our son said that because of my influence he now has a godly home with kids who also seek to lead godly lives. Their oldest is 15. He led his wife to the lord before they were married.
Our younger son is also serving God and married a Christian. He is 42. We are still really praying for 2 of his kids. but, their hearts seem pretty tender toward the Lord right now. We are all very çlose and always have been. Our sons were saved at a young age but backslid and totally surrendered their lives in college. But, as I said before, we do everything we know how to do, we try to be an example, we pray for God's wisdom, and in the end it is all God's grace enabling us and changing their hearts. We can do nothing good in our own strength. And salvatiòn comes by God's saving grace, not by parents. I once heard that the best thing your can do for your kids is love your wife.
We can and do still pray for them all and each other daily. God is faithful even when we fail.

A good friend at work and his wife just had their first child, and it was great to live day-to-day with him as the day grew near and then through it. It's such an emotional time, even for the dad. Personally, my prayer life reached and held a new high, because there is that feeling of inadequacy in the midst of such a high calling as a dad.

Pray for wisdom and patience, buy cd's, children's books about the Lord, a pop-up children's Bible to have on hand for the days s/he can begin to understand, and fill that heart with the knowledge that s/he is a child of God. I didn't have that as a child, and it was such a blessing to raise children who knew that they were loved.

To both of the expecting dads in this thread, God is going to blow your mind with the capacity to love that you might never have known you had. As a dad, I found that it got more rewarding with each new age because they could interact more. I'd say my wife had more of an instant bond. Being an uninvolved dad is easy. Doing dad right is the hardest job you'll ever have, but there is nothing on this earth that I've found to be more rewarding.

Most importantly, love your wives. Never stop showing your children how much you love their mothers. Congratulations!! :)

in todays world the school is designed to destroy your childs faith, and make them as worldly as possible, make plans now to home school, your commanded by God to bring your children up in the way they should go, teaching them they evolved from monkeys, and how to put condoms on bananas is not fulfilling this command

Welcome to dad's club! I am myself a new dad.. Blessed by the Lord with a wonderful daughter and she is 17 months old now. I was in the same place as you were.. But as the kid grew up, I realized how to give over everything to Lord.. There were testing time.. i realized how incapable I was and how dependent I was on the Lord for everything.. It helped me get closer with the Lord.. And gradually you will realize that God is in control of everything!

Regarding bringing up the child, I completely agree with one of the posters.. It's just the way we live our life.. They learn everything from us.. So rather than focusing on teaching them, we should live as an example for them. That is the best way to impart Godly wisdom to them..
