Baptism of the Holy Spirit - a one time event?

Yes, of course, you are 100% correct ... except for ...
I would not say that people who are cessationists are of
"a different Jesus, a different spirit" a different gospel!

I did not say that Paul did. lol
Many never consider the error of their traditions, and most on this thread know I am not casting doubt upon anyones salvation in Christ. But if one would consider this simple warning by Paul and turn from tradition to the clear and evident testimony of scripture, much of these false doctrines and strongholds of religion would be removed. The relationship one has with the scriptures will determine the fullness of God in that believers life. I have seen those who have been taught these traditions, be filled with the Spirit, when they started taking the Word of God for what it clearly says. No pentacostal shows are needed when believers believe the Word. God will meet them in a place and time that they can know That GOD ALONE has touched them, not a man but God. Then all the traditions of men will mean very little.

dont get me wrong i believe in the gift of tongues %100 but i find no where in scripture it tellsus we must have this gift {qualified" to receive one of more of the 9 spiritual power gifts (1 Cor 12).
Next, you will be Scripturally-qualified to enter into the 5-fold ministry (Eph 4:11).} you see i have the power with in me. John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: and i do believe in Healing and Miracles.

I agree with you ezra, I have been looking at the history of John G Lake and he had a powerful healing ministry before he received what many know as the "baptism" of the Holy Spirit.

Again I maintain that a believer will receive as much of Gods Spirit as He will believe for. My personal view is and was that I will ask the Father for as much as He can give to me, and me still be able to walk. lol I have had so much laid upon me that I could not move before His Glory.

In the NT, when the Holy Spirit comes UPON ...
several verses show it is talking about the baptism with the Holy Spirit.

But, about tongues we have ...

Acts 10:44-48
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.
45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter,
because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered,
47 “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized
who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?”
48 And he commanded them to be (water) baptized in the name of the Lord.

Acts 19:5-6
5 When they heard this, they were (water) baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them,
and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
7 Now the men were about twelve in all.

These 2 examples have nothing to do with the GIFT of tongues ...
they only portray the initial evidence/confirmation of receiving this baptism of power anointing.
(The GIFT of tongues is one of the 9 spiritual power gifts in 1 Cor 12.)

The verses above have nothing to do with the Spirit coming INSIDE when one is born again.
Although one can receive BOTH simultaneously, and many do!
