I'm not sure how many of you have heard the saying before that if it has three leaves that you should let it be, but considering the fact that summertime is generally speaking the season for poison ivy, how many of you on here actually knows what it looks like without looking it up? I certainly can't I know that much. So it's a really good thing that I have plenty of anti itch cream! :yes

You also have to look out for poison sumac and poison oak that is part of the sumac family. Pretty much stay away from anything green, pointed and three leafed. Never had contac with it as I learned from when I was a kid what it looks like.

Nope, and every year I get prednisone for it. I dont even need to see my dr. I just call the nurse lol!

You know, I was just thinking about this story while I was eating breakfast. Honestly, I think that my guardian angel must be preventing me from getting poison ivy because although the only thing I know about it is that it has three leaves so I can't recognize it out in the woods, I've only had it like once in my lifetime, and being a former Girl Scout that's truly amazing since I used to go on campouts all the time.

When I was a little kid all the way up until I was like ten or eleven I used to be extremely afraid of the dark. In fact although it's not as much as when I was little, I still am a little bit. So this one year I remember going tent camping and there were literally like tons upon thousands of mosquitoes on that campsite.

There were two other girls that I was sharing a tent with who were also afraid of the dark so we had a flashlight turned on inside of it. However that was a very bad idea and my mother (who was one of our troop leaders) even warned us not to leave it on because it would attract the mosquitoes. Here's a helpful piece of advice kids, always listen to your parents otherwise you will have to face the consequences of your actions. In our case, it was becoming an all you can eat buffet to every mosquito in the neighborhood and having to go to the doctors afterwards for it. :blackeye Lol, I forget exactly why though. :lol

Yes unfortunately it does grow here
I was told it was unwittingly brought over here

Thats one valid reason why nations have boarders and avoiding boarder security is serious. Bio security to prevent the spread of pest and disease and unwanted plant seed and material from entering the nation. Its common sense but same might claim its racist as boarders are racist.

Unfortunately not everybody has (and uses) common sense though and people get offended by every little thing nowadays. Like the recent Chief Wahoo incident that occurred with The Cleveland Indians. Give me a break! :rolleyes

I used to get poison ivy every year even though I knew exactly what it looks like. Not everyone is allergic and you may not be because you've never gotten it. Oh, and anti-itch cream doesn't do much to help.

My Mom once got it in her lungs from neighbors burning it; can you imagine?

When I bought my first house the big tree in front had a big, thick ivy growing up it over 20 feet. I was pretty sure it was poison ivy so I waited until fall was over before ripping it down, thinking I'd be safe. Nope!
When people commented on how bad I looked I told them they should see the plant - I won! Lol

Poison sumac is easy to spot from its bright red leaves. Poison oak I'm not sure about.
