What does "believing in yourself " mean to you? Does it contradict your belief in God? Is it important to believe in yourself?
Self confidence.
Not doubting yourself. New challenge? yes I can do that. No problem. You are not threatened by new challenges. Under pressure, you find a way to solve the issue. You don't panic either.
I guess it only becomes a problem when you have too much self-belief. Those who have high self-belief or self-esteem don't need God? Yet it would be a huge generalisation to say that Christians have low self belief. Our high self belief Christians are leading us? Yet the Bible seems to be saying that leaders are generally reluctant and have low self belief? And have to rely on God more than themselves? There are several in the OT but don't come to mind now. Moses? Abraham? Jonah?
If we can integrate our self-blief with belief in God that is ideal? or should we abandon self-belief altogether?

Decent questions worth thinking about.

Believing in your self is beneficial to a degree. It gives us confidence to do what is required. Without it we would be unable to complete any task in an effective manner.
For example if i didn't believe I was good at my job then i wouldn't be able to build anything that complies with the standards of quality and efficiency.

However there is a limitation to what we can believe in ourselves. Our life decisions are often the wrong ones, even our memories have been proven to be false. Too much self belief leads to pride and drives us away from God. Self belief is nothing when we die.

Then again if self believe is an illusion then how can we be sure that our belief in God is real?

Im sorry but i seem to have just gone around in a circle with my thinking there. But it is a good philosophical question

Yeah, this is tricky. I can only tell you how it goes for me when I start thinking something of myself. This is one of those paradox kind of things. I feel loved and that is why I feel special.

So, Jesus never made himself equal to the Father and this will show you why. We as Christians have Christ in us. If he was equal to the Father, that would mean we are equal to the Father now. No, he came in submission to the Father and we are in submission to Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:27-28 For he "has put everything under his feet."Now when it says that "everything" has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself who put everything under Christ.

Our strength should be in Christ in us. Philippians 4:13

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.

I have low self belief/self confidence. Especially when thrust into even a semi leadership role. I think my belief and trust in God is much better.
Sometimes I have achieved things due to the grace of God.
I just wonder whether God prefers me to take a back seat in life and let others run the show....

My usual MO (Method of Operation).
But then comes the people who demand that I take a leadership role. And even if I am not in charge they come to me with their questions and concerns.
So...I help them out without crossing jurisdiction lines.

Today they were looking at my panels and transformers I've made up. They swear I'm the best they have seen. And not only that I know what does what and for and how.

Yes I believe in myself just as much as I believe in God. I see no contradiction here, because I believe very strongly in the fact that He believes in me as well. :)

I think believing in your self means to have confidence in trusting in yourself for the decisions you make in life, even if some are mistakes that you learn and grow from. You can do anything if you set your mind to the goal you want to accomplish. It's also having confidence and trusting God and His will for your life as we submit and are guided by His Holy Spirit to where the purpose is God has for us.

ok so ..... say starting a new job........ one you have little or no experience for....
it might be :
-managing a restaurant
-disability support for severely disabled
-selling insurance
-teaching adults at a community centre. . ...
if these jobs were new to you, how would you feel taking on any of those roles?
would you pray to God for help?
