Hello, guys. What in YOUR opinion is the best bible translation to understand? I have both the KJV and the NLV, and I believe that the NLV is easiest to understand for me. I can't hardly understand the Shakespearesque KJV. I got that version from a friend of mine that had a large print edition and I read it a lot though. But again what's YOUR version you like reading, and understanding? It can be ANY of the hundreds of different versions that are out there.

King James is good; and you can rely on it having been translated in a fairly formal way, which means that a serious attempt has been made to render the original accurately.

Some more modern versions sacrifice accuracy for readability. This might work for a narrtive passage, but if it is strongly doctrinal, then you never quite know if what you are reading actually reflects what the original really says.

Personally, I refer to many translations.. NIV is one which I use often.. But when I am meditating on certain topics, I prefer using ESV.. Sometimes I prefer NLT over NIV.. English is not my mother tongue.. So sometimes it is easier to use NLT or NIV..

my all time favorite is KJ .... lots of reasons one is, often when i read it i can still hear my dad's voice ... I also like amp... A good Bible for a refresher is a kids Bible..

I don't really have an opinion on which is best. I like comparing translations. I own a KJV and an ESV. And I have apps on my Kindle and iPod that allow me to access other translations.

It's good also to apply the knowledge of the Bible version with which one is familiar.
