About 15 years ago the author Ray Bradbury was offered a chance to write a remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still". He turned the offer down. ("The Thing" was remade and was very good but a bit too loosely based on the original script I think)

It would have delt with earth having to defend itself in a trial setting while being judged by the combined alien goverments. Earth needed to prove that it was not a possible threat to the different worlds in our part of the galaxy.
I hope that some day Bradbury gets the rights and can release this script as a novel.
The studio decided not to go through with the project because it did not provide enough material to make an action adventure film.
