Bible Study Birthplace of Jesus

It is most certain that Jesus was born in Bethlehem. We can find that in Matt. 2:5-10.
So Bethlemhem is not into question. but were Joseph and Mary rich, middle or low class?
Was Jesus born in a simple stable of a poor like state or was he born in some place of worship or worth any value of money?

I ask these questions because of 2 things..
Yes Jesus made himself lower then the angels and that's the lower humble aspect of Jesus,
Then the aspect that he is the Son of God, King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

So was he born in a humble place or higher place of higher recognition?
I wonder this because a certain rich man of great wealth bought the tomb where he would lay.
So Jesus lies down in the hands of the rich.
So would his birth reflect his being rich because he is the Messiah the anointed one?

I think TOG, already answered this question and I agreed with Him.
Mary brought turtle doves for an offering for her sanctification after the birth of Jesus. This was allowed in the law for thus who couldn't afford a lamb.
I don't think the Bible gives us any clear definitions of classes in the Hebrew people as far as wealth goes. But it is clear they were not rich by any means. They where not required to buy a lamb for the burnt offering.

Luk 2:22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;
Luk 2:24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
Lev 12:8 And if she be not able to bring a lamb, then she shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons; the one for the burnt offering, and the other for a sin offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for her, and she shall be clean.

What building was He born in? What does the word say?
Luk 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
So we see that when the shepards came He was lying in a manager.

It was sometime later before the wise men found Him in a house now. They departed. Angel warned Joseph about Herod. Joseph took Mary and Jesus to Egypt until Herod was dead. I think they must have gone to Jerusalem for the above offering before the wise men found them.

Mat 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

Jesus attracted many different kinds of people from many different walks of life. As you said, from the rich even, to the very poor and sickly.
But it wasn't because He was rich, handsome, etc.

Isa 53:1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
Isa 53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
Isa 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Isa 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Thanks to all posters in this thread. I really appreciate all the scriptures and Biblical aspects to what has been shared.
I will certainly indeed to consider all these things to help me know the Bible even with more clarity.

I don't know if you see this but I thought of this to.
I saw an TV special filmed in Bethlehem. They showed a house and under the house at ground level there was an area they thought maybe was where animals were kept. There was an area craved and smooth out in the stone that looked like a small feeding trough, a manger.

He had to be born with the animals He is the Lamb of God .

Actually, the Bible doesn't mention any animals where he was born. That's something people assumed because he was laid in a manger. The Bible says the animals were all outside grazing (proving that it wasn't December).

Sheesh TOG some things are just fun. :tongue
Maybe i can be light hearted about His birth because the details dont matter to me.... As in if God wanted us to know the details they would be very clear..... He knows the number of hairs on our heads ... I believe it is purposely obscure , God knowing the nature of man knows/knew we would be worshiping the day, the place, not the Saviour. man could see touch etc the place we believe by faith...

I hadn't thought of it that way. When the temple ways destroyed He left very little of this material and temporal world that could become a point of worship.
If we knew exactly where, it definitely would become one of those places where people flock to as an altar to offer prayers and offerings, light candles and such.

What do you mean "would become"? I guess you haven't seen any pictures of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem around Christmas time.

No Room for Christ in the Inn
by
C. H. SPURGEON
(1834-1892)

"She gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn." Luke 2:7

It was necessary that Our Lord Jesus Christ would be born in Bethlehem Ephrathah, which is located in the land of Judah, for this was in accordance to the Word of the Lord which was spoken by His servant Micah, "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for Me One who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times" (Micah 5:2). But how could one bring about public recognition of the ancestry of an obscure carpenter and an unknown maiden? How would the local innkeepers know anything about these two humble persons?

The second fact is that Mary lived in Nazareth, which is in Galilee, and there seemed to be every probability that the birth would take place there; indeed, the time of her delivery was so near that, unless absolutely compelled, she would not likely undertake such a long and tedious journey to the southern province of Judea. How are these two realities to be harmonized? How do you get this obscure couple living in Nazareth to make the hard journey to Bethlehem when Mary is about to give birth? How do you get the official stamp of the Roman empire to be affixed to the pedigree of the coming Son of David, and to make Bethlehem the place of the nativity?

A little tyrant, Herod, in a show of independent spirit, offends the greater tyrant, Augustus. Augustus informs him that he will no longer treat him as a friend, but as a slave; and although Herod makes the most humiliating submission, and his friends at the Roman court intercede for him, yet Augustus, to show his displeasure, orders a census to be taken of all the Jewish people, in order to make preparations for a contemplated taxation, which was not carried out till some ten years later. Even the winds and the waves are not more fickled than a tyrant's will; but the Ruler of the wind and the waves knows how to rule the perverse spirits of princes. The Lord our God has a bridle for the wildest war horse, and a hook for the most terrible sea monster.

Wow, is this the building that they think Jesus was born in?

Not quite. That's the building they built over the place where they think he was born. A star marks the exact spot (or what they say is the exact spot)

I've seen mangers, and that doesn't look very much like one. It probably looked more like this:

I don't think they've ever made marble feeding troughs.

Luke 9:58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

Yike. I expect they built it to honor Him though.

other relics are also worshiped.... :sad

brings to mind a old song

I serve a risen Savior, He's in the world today;
I know that He is living whatever men may say;
I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer,
And just the time I need Him, He's always near.

Refrain:
He lives, He lives,
Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me
Along life's narrow way.
He lives, He lives,
Salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives?
He lives within my heart.
