this subject come up the other day .. so lets look it first by definition..
the act or offense of speaking sacrilegiously about God or sacred things; profane talk.
"he was detained on charges of blasphemy"
imo this could be anything from using God name in vain using the word dam with his name. --swearing

not to sure that rejecting him could fall into this category

this is what got questions has to say
The term blasphemy may be generally defined as “defiant irreverence.” The term can be applied to such sins as cursing God or willfully degrading things relating to God. Blasphemy is also attributing some evil to God or denying Him some good that we should attribute to Him. This particular case of blasphemy, however, is called “the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit” in Matthew 12:31. The Pharisees, having witnessed irrefutable proof that Jesus was working miracles in the power of the Holy Spirit, claimed instead that the Lord was possessed by a demon (Matthew 12:24). Notice in Mark 3:30 Jesus is very specific about what the Pharisees did to commit blasphemy against the Holy Spirit: “He said this because they were saying, ‘He has an impure spirit.’”

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit has to do with accusing Jesus Christ of being demon-possessed instead of Spirit-filled. This particular type of blasphemy cannot be duplicated today. The Pharisees were in a unique moment in history: they had the Law and the Prophets, they had the Holy Spirit stirring their hearts, they had the Son of God Himself standing right in front of them, and they saw with their own eyes the miracles He did. Never before in the history of the world (and never since) had so much divine light been granted to men; if anyone should have recognized Jesus for who He was, it was the Pharisees. Yet they chose defiance. They purposely attributed the work of the Spirit to the devil, even though they knew the truth and had the proof. Jesus declared their willful blindness to be unpardonable. Their blasphemy against the Holy Spirit was their final rejection of God’s grace. They had set their course, and God was going to let them sail into perdition unhindered.

λασφημία, βλασφημίας, ἡ, railing, reviling (Vulg.blasphemia);
a. universally, slander, detraction, speech injurious to another's good name:

specifically, impious and reproachful speech injurious to the divine majesty:

this is barnes commentary .i will provide a link to save space. please note this only comments not thus saith the Lord. so dont get excited if you dont agree with it. https://biblehub.com/commentaries/barnes/matthew/12.htm..

imo the blasphemy is rejecting Christ and never getting saved > the unpardonable sin . any all sin can be forgiven provided we rent /turn from ask for forgiveness as in romans 10:9-10 from the heart a true sincere Godly sorrow . just lip service alone will not get it . Big question can CHRISTIAN true blue blood bought child of the King commit Blasphemy ? i dont plan on finding out.

all i ask is keep responses with in reason ..

1 Timothy 1:13 Paul (Saul) was a blasphemer and even persecuted Christians to death, but was a blasphemer out of ignorance in unbelief for he knew not Christ or the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. It wasn't until his conversion on the road to Damascus that his spiritual eyes and ears were opened, to understanding, Acts 9.

Those who walk in unbelief are just that being nonbelievers and are none of Christ like Paul was at one time. Those who have walked in truth given them by the Spirit of God (Holy Spirit) John 14:26, are those who have also turned back to the flesh just as the foolish Galatians who walked away from faith in Galatians chapter 3. Those who blasphemy the Holy Spirit knowing the truth have walked away from it as their hearts become hardened and they speak evil against the (Holy Spirit)

Matthew 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. 32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. 33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.

Galatians 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? 2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? 4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain. 5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

This might help us understand what blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is all about in a simpler understanding. It's a conscious and hardened opposition to the truth because the Spirit that is God is truth. Conscious and hardened resistance to the truth leads man away from humility and repentance and without repentance there can be no forgiveness. Because of defiance they refuse to hear what the Spirit (God) is speaking to them. The only unpardonable sin is refusing to let God pardon you for without repentance there is no forgiveness of sin.

Strong's Concordance definition of blasphemy - contempt

Contempt: the feeling that a person or thing is beneath consideration, worthless, or deserving scorn.

Provocation : action or speech that makes someone annoyed or angry, especially deliberately

Example: Nehemiah 9:18; 26; Ezekiel 35:12-15

Dictionary blasphemy - the act or offense of speaking sacrilegiously (evil) about God or sacred things; provain talk

Blasphemy in scripture: (read the full context as I only picked out certain verses that contain the word blasphemy)

2 Samuel 12:14 Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.

Isaiah 52:5 Now therefore, what have I here, saith the LORD, that my people is taken away for nought? they that rule over them make them to howl, saith the LORD; and my name continually every day is blasphemed.

Matthew 9:3 And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.

Matthew 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

Mark 3:29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: 30 Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.

Mark 14:64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

Luke 5: 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?

Acts 26:11 And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities.

Romans 2:24 For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.

James 2:7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

Reprobate mind means a depraved, unprincipled or wicked person rejected by God and beyond hope of salvation

Example:

Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

In more simple terms...
Calling things that are good as evil
AND vice versa
Calling things that are evil as good.

IOW "Killing Babies for Jesus" just ain't gonna cut it on many levels.

I differ than most on here, lol. No surprise.
I believe it means not allowing the Holy Spirit to speak through you in certain circumstances.

Let's take a look at the unforgiven sin.
Luke 12:8-12

Whomsoever shall confess Me before men, Him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God.
But he that denieth Me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.

Whomsoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him, but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Spirit it shall not be forgiven.

Pay close attention to these verses, 11,12.

And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:

For the Holy Spirit shall teach you in the same HOUR what ye ought to say.

I believe this will take place during the HOUR of TEMPTATION.
You are delivered up before the false Christ....

Witnesses:

Mark 13:9-11

Take heed to yourselves, for they shall deliver you up to councils, and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten, and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings FOR MY SAKE, FOR A TESTIMONY AGAINST THEM.

And the gospel must first be published among all nations.

(The gospel that the Holy Spirit shall speak)

But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, NEITHER PREMEDITATE , but whatsoever shall be given you IN THAT HOUR, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the HOLY SPIRIT.

Another witness:
Luke 21:12-19

They shall lay hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers FOR MY NAME'S SAKE.

And it shall turn to you for A TESTIMONY.

Settle it therefore in your hearts, NOT TO MEDITATE before what ye shall answer;
For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which ALL YOUR ADVERSARIES SHALL NOT BE ABLE TO GAINSAY NOR RESIST.....
And ye shall be hated of all men, FOR MY NAME'S SAKE.

But there shall not an hair of your head perish.
In your patience possess ye your souls...

I believe this will be the tongues spoken on the day of Pentecost.
Everyone will hear it in their own language....every nation will hear it...

My 2 cents....

After reading this I thought of the foolish Galatians.

Galatians 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

I see blasphemy against the Holy Spirit being like that of Galatians 3:3. The foolish Galatians (foolish Christians) began in the Spirit of truth (Holy Spirit), but turned back to the flesh where Satan came and stole their faith as they denounced God's Holy Spirit. We will see this more in the end of days during the seven trumpets sounding as many were led to believe a lie and now have lost all hope.

Good thought..

I think its possible to do blasphemy nowadays. Just looking at the holy spirit preach through a pastor and call it demonic. Or see the pastor perform a miracle and say its demonic. The pastor is Jesus nowadays, but then again not every pastor is spirit filled.
