Body Soul and Spirit

reply

Steve, You pretty much hit it on the nail. The three-fold nature of man is spirit, soul, and body. ( 1 Thess. 5:23). Hold on to this, and I believe you wil have a successful life of faith in your walk with the Lord.

May God bless, golfjack

Hey Mutz,
I was just kind of thinking out loud. Nothing set in stone here.

I was asked what teaching had it's greatest influence on me, and I wasn't sure. (come to find out it's Wesleyan aka Methodist, ha, and I've never been to any of those churches) I was also asked what style of critisism I prefer. (textual) So, I was just reading some of my old posts to see what I had written to kind of help me figure those questions out. Sometimes we don't recognize our own style or our own biases.

Anyway, I was also asked about faith. And as I was reading your post with faith in mind... Well... I couldn't resist posting because it just seemed to make since at the time. Is is theologically sound? I'm not a theologian so I really don't know. (which means probably not, but for me, it's fun to think about.)

Well, we'll just let this thread die now.

Sorry, can’t let faith die!! It’s a bit off this topic and I'm no theologian but there have been times when it has been as though the Lord has whacked me between the eyes with a 2x4 when he has wanted to reveal something to me. Such has been the impact on me anyway.

I’ve posted this before but worth repeating I think, since this is what He showed me regarding faith. This I would say is the way God reveals things to me more than any other way – a real life object lesson.

One day a child of mine asked me, “Dad, why are we so poor?†I said, “What makes you think we are poor?†And he told me of all the things others he knew, did and had. So I said to him, “Son, when you go bed at night you don’t have to worry about whether you’ll be warm and safe in your bed. It’s already provided for you. When you wake up in the morning, you don’t have to worry about whether there will be breakfast for you. It’s already provided. The clothes you wear, your food, your schooling, the home you live in and the security of a father that loves you. They are all yours. You have everything you need. “And,†I said, “this is the same relationship I have with my heavenly father. As I walk in the provision of his love every day I know that all of my needs have already been met. And yours are too.â€Â

And this is what faith is. We don’t have to worry about anything because we know that while we walk in the provision of a loving heavenly Father, whatever the circumstance, He cares and will provide for His own. And so our lives become a walk of faith. We don’t have to strive. We don’t have to worry. We just need to dwell in Him. And this is the righteousness that we have in Christ. To those who are His son’s and daughters, His provision has already been made.

By Gods grace, through Christ alone, we have been born into His family as sons and heirs of the living God. And by reason of our relationship to Him, the gift of faith enables us to dwell in His provision day by day. We don’t have to strive. We don’t have to be anxious for anything because we know God will, rather, has already provided. And this is the inheritance we have through Christ. It is our confidence that even as the gospel was preached in advance to Abraham, the man of faith - to whom God credited righteousness because he believed God and trusted in His provision. This is the same righteousness imputed to us by faith that is inherent in any child who trusts in the provision of all things from his father.

So, faith is not an act of the will or even a state of mind. It is position of implicit trust. And when this is so, we walk as Jesus walked – doing the will of our Father in heaven.

What do think?

I don't think I could have stated it as good as you did. I think that your words are spot on as I reflect on my life. It's almost ironic, when you look at the OT, there are many common elements that Israel, as a nation takes on that we, as individuals also take on.

In Matthew 6, we are told not to worry. I think this goes hand in hand with faith because we know that God will provide for us. Heck, I’ve slept under bridges, lived in my car, lived out of a small duffle bag as I hitch hiked across the country. I’ve really got some wild stories and I really should write a book on my life because I think it would sell, not to mention it might help others know that there are others that have “Made it to the other sideâ€Â. Sure, I felt what it was like to be hungry, but I never felt what it was like to absolutely do without. God always provided in one way or the other. Sure, I had to reach at times for what I wanted, but like you stated, it wasn’t a battle and I didn’t have to strive for it, I only had to accept what was put before me.

Like your self, I've learned by the school of hard knocks, or what is also known as through experience. Ironically, looking back, most of the strife in my life was caused when I was striving to succeed. Funny how that works out huh? I understand David's words, "Your Rod and your Staff comfort me" because I know that God loves me enough to set me straight when I need it as he guides me down His path. And this is a good thing.

Hi mutzrein,

Thanks for the blessing, I needed to hear this today, and it has encouraged me a great deal.

I pray the Lord blesses you as well.
