Book Keeper's Coffee Shop

I'll take a lemon grass / green tea please!

Wow, moving to America, how great! And Texas no less! As they say, go BIG or stay home!

You've probably already said what your profession is, but i dont fully recall. By your screen name, are you a CPA?

My wife and i will be in the Dallas area the week of Nov 11 in the event your around. Were helping our son move across town and could use an extra set of hands!

Or... If you ever find yourself in Michigan, it would be my pleasure to take you to lunch.
Your tea is served!
I'm was an Administrator for legal firms in the UK, however, I will be working with ranch and farmland properties in welfare and management. Its a hand-on and hands-off job; some administrative paperwork and manual labor.

I have the flight tomorrow evening, however, I won't but fully settled in by 11/11, and will being sorting my affairs out. If I am available or in your state, I'll give you a shout; I'd love to have lunch. I cannot get into my apartment until 11/18, so I will be staying in a hotel until its all in place.

It's funny because Papa in Michigan means your grandfather.

Really? That's interesting, but if it's all the same to you, I think I will keep John both as one of my best friends and my online daddy. :) Oh yeah, and if we ever do meet, he better bring the jaws of life with him because I plan on giving him a great big bear hug :hug and I don't plan on letting go anytime soon either. :lol

Book Keeper be on the Riverwalk soon, eating green enchiladas, going to the Spurs game...

For now, I just want strong black coffee

Yew kin go to the Alamo, BK, gitcha a coonskin cap!

Strong black coffee with an extra shot served.
I don't think I could pull off a coonskin cap; I'll stick with the Cowboys cap. :wink

San Antonio is really nice...the Riverwalk and canals are a big tourist trap. The trees are filled with grey moss...the heat is unbearable at times and a hat does help enormously.

One of the best things in Texas is the Sopapillas. (Spelling?)
Just a drizzle of honey and butter and I can eat a dozen of them all by myself.

So...
Get yourself a ten gallon hat, a pair of boots, Western Shirts, blue jeans, a belt with an oversized buckle, a holster (keep it empty) and a dually pickup truck with a rifle rack in the back window and a tool box for the bed... you're all set...just walk bowlegged.

Might have to brush up on your "ya'all" and "Howdy Ma'am".
But I guarantee that you will be able to impress the locals with your European tolerance for "adult beverages"...if anyone can keep up then you probably shouldn't hang out with them.

I got friends there in TX...a couple in San Antonio too. My wife's Uncle used to live there.

It's going to be much warmer than the UK. Wear sun block and long sleeves. No one will blame you one bit. Sun poisoning is no joke.

Also...last thing. Set your GPS to avoid Toll Roads for when you get a vehicle. You will appreciate this part later...or you can smack your head later and say, "I shoulda...."

Book Keeper since it is October I will take a Pumpkin spice cappuccino please with a small amount of coffee in it. Good to see you in the forums again and congrats on your good news and pray all will be a blessing to you.

I lived in San Antonio back in the early part of the 80's. Coming from a very small country town in Pennsylvania it was like a culture shock. Sort of like the hillbilly's on the show Beverly Hillbillies coming to California I was amazed by the city life. Not sure if you are familiar with that show from the 60's to the very early 70's. I lived there for eight years and also have a sister that lives in San Antonio and another near Houston. Complications beset me and I got tired of city living and needed my rolling hills of Pennsylvania so moved back home.

The weather is blistering melt your face off in the summer so if you are working outside keep yourself Hydrated and protected from the sun.

God bless you on your new endeavor.

Hi John,

We have those donuts here in the UK; we have to get them from American candy stores, but they're good.
I know it gets hot; I have an alarming amount of flannel shirts that will help in those hot months. I think sun block will be my best friend; we're used to damp, cooler weather over here. Someone told me about the toll roads; we have them over here too, especially on the freeways. We pay $8.61 (£6.70) per passing; I think I will be setting the GPS to avoid tolls.

The vehicle I have ordered is a 2019 Ford Ranger 4X4 FX4 - I have always owned a truck, even here in the UK. I have just sold my 2017 Nissan Navara Tekna, so the money has gone into my new truck.

Us Brits can drink; we're world famous for our rowdy vacations to Spain and other resorts - I can drink beer and whiskey so I am already prepared. Here in the UK we can drink when we're 18, so we have had a few years more practice.

I am picking up on the slang, and the ways of speaking. The think that's going to be more difficult is the American version of our ways of speaking. I have been practicing and I think I've got it.

Thanks for your welcome back, its good to return.
Please find your beverage at the bar - sugar is to your right!
Where I lived in the UK, we were surrounded by cities, and I worked in our county's most populous cities. I will be traveling to numerous areas for my job to more open plains, so I will get a breather every so often. I can see why people prefer to be away from the hustle and bustle.

Thank you for your well wishes; the flights are in 7 hours so off to the airport in 4 hours. As TX is -5 hours GMT + 1 for DST, I will pretty much be straight into my hotel bed when I arrive! :sleep I'll catch you all stateside. :salute
