Build Your Own Computer

Hey Bud! Nice to see ya out and about.

Yeah, if ya got a battery, I'll send you her address if you want to send :bday:

As far as the job security... it's really up in the air. We had two techs get picked up by HP and I'm the last of the original crew. Feeling kinda lonely... We did pick up two new techs to replace them... Man, it goes to show that just because you have your MCSE, doesn't mean you know your rear from a hole in the ground. It simply reinforces my view that... well, never mind

Anyway, if I have a job when we come back on the 3rd I'll be happy. Hopefully I won't get any surprise calls between now and then. Regardless, my job as I know it won't exist come June. They are farming out all of thier I.T. needs and our group has been rolled into a contract to support a much broader base. I'm not sure who got the contract but I should know within the next few weeks.

Things are getting tight though. I tell you what, your going to see less and less of me on the forum if at all in the weeks and months to come. As your aware, my place of employment is cutting and cutting and cutting. Only the best of the best will remain. It's getting so bad that they are now (and have been) monitoring who and what sites everyone is visiting. Needless to say, I don't think that Christianforums.net will qualify as a work related site :-D and if I want my job, I'd better lay off when I'm at work. Heck, it's pretty easy to log 30 hits from this site... you know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, I'd like to start my own business, everyone tells me I should open my own PC store... Don't really want to do that though. I was thinking about a christian book store, but it costs so much for the franchise... Not really sure, but I do know that God has brought me this far so I don't think he's going to just drop me on my bum LOL

Anyway, now that I've completly hijacked this thread LOL

While several of us were bandying about windows 98 v.s. XP, I see you are actually the smartest one here. I wish I had the guts to go over to Linux. Maybe one day I will. I think the Microsoft Monopoly has been going on too long--- plus the Linux is a thrifty OS--- free!

I've been using linux for five years (regularly for the past three years.) The one thing I really, really love about linux is that if I royally screw up, I don't have to reinstall. It's usually just some out of wack config file that can be read and repaired clearly with a liveCD like knoppix (BTW I repair Windows pc using a linux LiveCD). Another thing I like is NO REGISTRY, NO DEFRAGGING etc...

I agree with smigen. Go grab yourself a cheapy 'puter (though I'd go for a PIII. Picked up one of these from Valley Forge computer show for $30) and go for it. I have to warn that you may become a linux OS junkie like myself ;-)

BTW. If you think you have configurability with windows, you are lying to yourself. Once you experience the configurability of Linux you'll understand what I'm saying.

Have you thought about an online bookstore?

A manager of a bookstore (Grace) I used to work at here in Philly started her own online Christian bookstore. She gets her books from Cumberland Valley Bible Books as well as some other wholesalers, and she has them all drop shipped.

Just something to think about.

You can always try out a linux liveCD, the most popular being Knoppix. This allows you to run a full linux OS from CD w/o installing to hard drive and it will not affect your hard drive (that is unless you want it to :D ). This will allow you to get a feel for linux and it's working's. This is free to downloadhttp://www.knoppix.org/, but if you don't want to download you can buy the CD from Cheapbyteshttp://shop.cheapbytes.com/cgi-bin/cart, OSDisc.comhttp://www.osdisc.com/cgi-bin ... index.html and many other online linux cd sellers.

I use knoppix as a recovery tool for windows pc's especially to retrieve data from pc that refuse to boot up.
