Bible Study can god read thoughts?

Amen! Good afternoon young lady.
Hi there
Hope you are doing well.
Since we are on the subject, thought I would say, I believe we are not judged by our thoughts, but by our actions.
What goes in the mouth does not defile, but what cometh out the mouth defiles you. Matt.15:11

Good day :)

A principal missed by those that do not read their copy of the scriptures, prayerfully and submissively.

X hubby and Y wife are driving to work.Z passes by .X looks at Z with "lustful thoughts"
Christ knows X's thoughts regardless of intended actions " But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart."
Mt. 5:27.

Mt. 5:27.
Yes, true.
But in my opinion, lusting and looking is two different things.
Lusting is taking action.

But those things which proceed out of mouth come forth from the heart and they defile a man.
For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornication, thefts, false witness, blasphemous
Matt.15:18,19

God is reading hearts, and knows the heart of man. This is not thoughts, this is the spirit or deep within.

Jesus said the eye being single is important. Looking at a women and thinking lustful things connects the eye to the heart. It's still not Adultery though. The capacity to commit adultery is there, as adultery is in the heart. So, the sin is there, but not activated yet and there is still time to get it fixed.

James breaks this down pretty good, and shows us how the process works.

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
(Jas 1:14-15)

If we keep thinking on and feeding something that has conceived as sin, then when the situation comes up, we will act on it, and death is the next step.

The lie is that we can just wallow in sinful thoughts and not commit the sin, but truth is, if it's already there we will act on that when the situation presents itself. That's the point we get in trouble.

I agree with what you say here as according to scripture. I do think that we'll be judged upon our very thoughts though. (I've wondered if our thoughts are louder in heaven than our speech?)

Matthew 5:27
27 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart./

That was Jesus talking. If looking upon a woman with lust makes one guilty of adultrey then this would be Jesus warning us that He takes our thoughts to be reality...and that we would be accountable for it.

Careful what you think about brothers and sisters. It is my presumption that before the fall, before men started using their brains to think...they thought from the heart (and the Lord knows the desires of our heart...), then, there is a spiritual reality to this here that most of us don't comprehend. Are thoughts themselves spiritual in nature? If so then this is very important.

Thanks!

I pondered on this, and a verse popped in my head.
Mark 7:6
This people honoured me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.

Hard to imagine.

So if I'm thinking of stealing something, I might as well do it, because I am guilty of thinking of it anyway?
Same as adultery?

Thus, renew your mind.
If Jesus reigns in you, you should have no evil thoughts.

I've heard that before and am not fond of it as a perspective. (May as well do it then)

We're told to take captive and to cast down evil thoughts. To me this is saying, that just because an evil thought comes into our mind, that does not make it sin. That's just the enemy whispering to us. It's what we do with the thought that counts. Do we receive it, and think/dwell on it? Whoosh! down into the heart it goes, to become a part of us. Or, do we catch it, and reject the thought, cast it down and turn our heart back to the Lord for guidance and strength? Then it is no sin, just an average day in the life of a God fearing Christian...

Lord give us strength to overcome.

Jesus said the lust, and so forth about the women is "Committing Adultery In the Heart" So the sin of adultery is in there already, but you have not sinned.

So, Let's say you are thinking about taking something, you cast it down, saying, "That is stealing, I should not steal that." but you really need it and see it laying out everyday at work. If you had it, it would change some things for the good at home, but you would have to steal it.

So you cast the thought down, but it keeps coming to your head. If I really just took it, who would notice? They don't really pay me that much anyway, and they did not pay me for some over time I had coming, even after I told them about it. Is it really stealing?

At first you cast it down as stealing, now you have let that thought stay there and have watered it. It's not stealing now, it's taking.
Now you question yourself, "What happens if I get caught?"

So we go from Stealing, to just taking, to now considering the consequences and weighing them.

At this point it's this.

Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin

You still have not sinned, but you have sin now in you, with the green light to go ahead as it's already born and conceived. James said this brings forth something. Now your only issue is not wanting to get caught, not that it's stealing.

So, the only condition left is to make you feel as if you won't get caught, once that condition is met (The devil will help out here) You will take it, because the sin is already there.
Once taken, it's actually now sin that will produce bad things like death.

Death in someone's life is not normally just physically dying, but that is what Death produces. Death effects your money, relationships, your standing with God, a whole lot of other things die because of sin.

Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not (Ears to hear), from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.
(Luk 8:18)

As faith in the heart produces action and is activated, so sin without action is not activated. But sin in the heart will activate and come forth, just as Faith does.

Once you have violated your conscience to the point of justifying the sin, you will follow through with it, if presented the right circumstances to do so.

Committing adultery in your heart, and being Ok with it, will lead to the actual sin, and this is what James was telling us, and Jesus warned about.

I'm going to chew on that one for a few Brother, you said a mouthful! :)

This is one of my favorites
Ezekiel 11:5
5And the Spirit of the LORD fell upon me, and said unto me, Speak; Thus saith the LORD; Thus have ye said, O house of Israel: for I know the things that come into your mind, every one of them.

Sarah coudn't back out of this one "Then the Lord said to Abraham. 'Why died Sarah laugh ...15.Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, 'I did not laugh,' But he said , Yes , you did laugh.'(Gen,18:14-15)NIV. God read her inner thoughts behind the unbelieving laugh, as II see it.
Notice how the matter is left at that, with Abraham remaining silent before leaving with the Three Visitors in Verse 16.to negotiate the sparing of Sodom.

It wouldn't surprise me if they were louder.

When you say, "We'll be judged on our very thoughts", you are of course talking about the unforgiven...right?

Not preaching just making sure, I didn't miss something. :) There is no judgment for the forgiven...correct?

As for God reading thoughts, absolutely...we may find that's where the most vile stuff goes on.

Absolutely brother, for the unforgiven. Good point.

It seems to me that our thoughts can't even be traced to a portion of the brain, they don't know where consciousness resides. This to me is a flag that they are entirely spiritual in nature, and likely come from the heart. Science does know that the heart is a more powerful transmitter than the brain is, and have picked up the signals from as much as 12 (or 20?) feet away.

So I pondered this and came to the conclusion that our thoughts have to be spiritual, and if so, would explain why they can't find consciousness, why a man speaks from the abundance of his heart, and how/why our thoughts are louder in heaven than our very words. It all fits inline with scripture, it just isn't spelled out for us. But all of the warnings and implications are there.

So not doing a sinful act isn't enough. It may be that even dwelling on sinful acts is the seed which brings forth sin. Dwelling on evil thoughts goes into our heart and changes the man who we are.

Good topic.

Let's take covetousness for example, hate....just to name a couple of obvious ones that can solely be done in the mind heart or whatever............... inside.

It seems to me that our thoughts can't even be traced to a portion of the brain, they don't know where consciousness resides.

I never knew that. Interesting

I guess I always thought of the heart of a person as their soul, not their physical heart but, I also though that soul was pretty much their brain or it's contents and I think a lot may disagree there. And I'm not suggesting I have it right, but interesting subject.
