Canola oil: I stand vindicated

A few years back, I warned here of the dangers of Canola oil. Although the fat distribution is similar to olive oil, it has a lot of processing, I heard something about the acidic content but most importantly it goes thru a lot of PROCESSING. I cited an internet article about it coming from rapeseed oil and is not good for you.

Of course, there were those here who "corrected" me because the article I used (and they were correct) was (to my horror) an URBAN legend that self-righteous SNOPES debunked thus making me to look like the "fool". My only defense was, well, it's man-made and processed but some here pointed out my error. After all, ol' Tim here has strange beliefs and is part of a cult, so why not the same with health? Some sided with the side of mainline medical establishment. Common sense tells us that anything mankind does to food is not inherently good, but I hear (to my dismay) quotes from Christian sources that sound like they are parroting the worldly medical system. So now what? I come across this article from "medical news today" of all places about the dangers of it. It's ironic when the erroneous establishment admits to error --- take my word! It must really be bad! LOL I hope those people here who "corrected" me awhile back don't have something bad like cancer that they want praying for. Naw... probably they don't remember is more likely.

I would expect such junk news from the rest of the establishment. I hope you did not miss my point. My point was man made vs natural and God made. Unless man tampers with olive oil, no it is not bad for you. Olive oil was a main staple in the ancient Israelites diet and was symbolic of the Holy Spirit. You can't get more pure than the Holy Spirit. Canola oil is man tampered. My guess was not the fat content in the Canola oil, as it's very similar to olive oil, but something with the acidity or to that effect.

I said the same about salt when it was getting a bad rap, but it's natural, except table salt is stripped of vital minerals so that processed salt is what is bad, not true salt. I really think they do not have a handle on the difference.

As for meats, one can consult Leviticus. Those dietary restrictions, which IMO are not that severe, are the ones the creator wants us to eat.

I actually read an article recently that said that much of the olive oil consumed in the US is deceptively labeled. Apparently, there have even been cases of cheaper oils being treated w/ flavors and dyes, then packaged as "extra virgin olive oil," and passed off to unsuspecting consumers. The root of the problem seems to be corruption in whatever Italian regulatory agency is supposed to keep tabs on the olive oil industry.

It's things like that which give good foods bad names. It's not the olive oil, per se, but the tampering. I remember the FDA pulling an amino acid supplement years ago because the foreign (it figures) company that packaged it had some sort of bacteria, then people were getting sick. But then the food or supplement itself gets blamed as "bad". I have two basic rules for good foods:

1) as natural as possible (no man-made production or processing (heating or added chemicals and the like)) and
2) it's biblical. But that mainly covers meats and foods modified by a natural process such as cheese and butter, not fruits/vegetables.

So with those two criteria, one should be able to answer if it's healthy or not (or at least the healthier) e.g.

a) margarine or butter?
b) whole eggs or substitute egg whites in a container?
c) skim milk or whole milk?
d) pork or beef?
e) fresh water fish with scales or shell fish?
f) white bread or Ezekiel bread?

etc etc

yeah...I think tim is thinking of tryptophan. I think its available w/ a prescription (?), but now people use 5-HTP.

reba...sometimes, I'll make toast w/ peanut butter, and I use this bread my dad gets...I think its called Health Nut (?). Its often on sale. Anyway, its multi-grain, and they somehow put tiny, ground up nuts in there, for texture+flavor. Good times...not as heavy and dense as straight up whole wheat bread, thank goodness. More often, I'll slather peanut butter on a whole wheat or multi-grain bagel and pretend I'm doing something amazingly healthful, lol.

Well, Reba, nothing sayin' we are all human and fall into temptation. I do and eat wrongly, but know better. I can eat junk, but I also eat a lot of good stuff, too along with vitamins in case I missed anything. The body is a wonderful filtering mechanism and if it has enough good in it, may (within reason) be well able to handle the bad. But seriously, the original topic was about oil. I think most here would agree that olive oil over Canola even tastes better as does some other things were we told to avoid such as butter and eggs. These are all yummy foods. I feel sorry for people who gave up taste in the name of health only to find that the foods they were ingesting is actually bad for them! What a twist of irony and a travesty.
