Scripture does not argue against Christ's law, nor against doing the works of His law. Scripture only condemns any doctrine that teaches we are not forgiven by the faith of Jesus Christ, until doing a work of His law. The gospel of works and of law, is the promise of salvation through faith, only after doing a work commanded by the Lord.

Those who preach that water baptism commanded by Jesus, is necessary to be forgiven of sins, are doing the same as believing Jews commanding flesh circumcison, else ye cannot be saved.

Gal 3:17And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

Doing a work of law unto salvation, disannulls the promise of salvation through the faith of Jesus Christ. Having His Spirit by hearing of faith is made ineffectual, and powerless to forgive and save the soul, until the believer is obediently water baptised.

Gal 3:2This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Heb 1:3Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

I.e. Christ Himself is powerless to purge our sins, until a work of His law is done by hands of men. The hands of the Lord Himself are not able to save souls, because He needs the hands of other men doing the baptizing, that is made necessary for Him to forgive sins.

Isa 59:1Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:

Isa 50:2Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver?

The only man the Lord needs to save by His hand, is the man Christ Jesus. He does not need, look toward, nor call for any other man to come with power to save by circumcision, or by water baptism.

Act 8:9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.

Some such great baptizers also limit the power of God to save, to only those believers confessing in their water baptism.

Jas 1:18Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

If water baptism saves the soul, then we are not born again by the water of the word and the will of Christ, until we are born again by the water of baptism at the will of the baptizer.

Rom 10:10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Any believer water baptised without confession of the baptizer's faith, are condemned as unforgiven of sins and not saved by confessing the Lord Jesus Christ and His faith.

The promise of birth by the seed of Christ forbids any convenant made by works, like that of circumcision, so that no man other than Jesus Christ Himself may have the great power of God to save souls.

Here are bullet points about justification by law and salvation by water baptism:

-Justification by law is disannulling salvation by the faith of Jesus Christ, until doing a work of law.
-Paul is not arguing against keeping the law, but only against doing a work of law, in order to be forgiven of sins and become sons of God.
-Commanding water baptism, else ye cannot be saved, is justification by law.
-Justification by law makes recieving the Son through faith of none effect, until doing a work of law.
-Christ did not send Paul to water baptise, but only to save by preaching the gospel. Paul thanked God for not baptising many newborn converts. The Lord spared His apostls from being caught up in the new schism made by commanding water baptism for salvation.
-Preaching against justification by law, is not preaching against the law. Preaching against salvation by water baptism, is not preaching against water baptism.
-Some Jews commanded flesh circumcision from law of Moses, else ye cannot be saved. Some Christians command water baptism from law of Christ, else ye cannot be saved.
-In Galatians, the argument is not about the difference between the law of Moses and the law of Christ. The argument is against commanding any work of any law, that is made necessary to be forgiven of sins and become sons of God by Jesus Christ.
-The commandments of the Lord are the law of the Lord. The commanded law of the Lord was first given by Moses for the OT. The commanded law of the Lord is now given by the apostles for the NT.
-Salvation by water baptism makes hands of men necessary to be saved, rather than Jesus Christ purging our old sins by Himself with hands of the Spirit.
-In the doctrine of baptisms, every Scripture on baptism is not by water. The Spirit's baptism and circumcision of Christ save and sanctify the heart and soul through faith in Christ Jesus, not by the commanded works of flesh circumcision nor water baptism.

Simply put: If salvation is by any work of law or faith, then recieving the Spirit of Christ by faith of hearing, is made of none effect, until a work of law and faith is accomplished. Justification by law forbids Jesus Christ purging our old sins, by Himself.

Heb 1:3Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Commanding any work with hands of men, else ye cannot be saved, demands other men have a hands-on part in being forgiven and saved by Jesus Christ, which is no longer by Himself from heaven, but now is only with the help of other men on earth.

RBDERRICK, do you believe that Jesus has always been, was while on earth, is now, and always will be God, as he himself claimed in the Gospel of John?

This is the Baptism of Christ for receiving the Holy Spirit that is different from John's baptism that was only an outward appearance that one confessed their sins, but has nothing to do with the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire, (fire means empowerment)

Acts 1:5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Seven works of the Holy Spirit in sanctification
1. Transforms us - Romans 12:1-2; 2Corinthians 3:18
2. Convicts us of sin - John 16:8-11
3. Guides us into all truths - John 14:26
4. Empowers us to proclaim Christ - Acts 1-8; Ephesians 1:13
5. Gives us Spiritual gifts - 1Corinthians 12
6. Empowers us to worship - Ephesians 3:14-19
7. Leads us - Galatians 5:25

We put on Jesus by the renewal of our mind, body and soul through Jesus life, death and resurrection by which we can reconcile ourselves back to Gods grace and mercy through His Salvation of Spiritual renewal and Spiritual rebirth of spirit. We now have the mind of Christ as joint heirs with Jesus as we walk in the path of Jesus and not our own path anymore. John 3:3-21

Sin separates us from God because God is a spirit and can only recognize his own children by what spirit is living in their hearts. We have to renew, rebirth - born again, Gods Spirit within us in order to be called a child of God and see the kingdom of heaven. We now put off the old man (flesh) and put on the new man (Spirit), Colossians 3:1-17. We are renewed by the word of God and through the Holy Spirit teaching us of all things, John 14:26.

Acts 2:38,39 When we repent of our sins and ask Jesus into our hearts we are also receiving the promise of God that his Holy Spirit will come and dwell in our hearts and teach us of all things we need to learn, John 14:26. The baptism that Peter was talking about in Acts 2:38 was a Spiritual rebirth through the word of God. Some people think it is being dunked or sprinkled with water the way John the Baptist did and there is nothing wrong with that for it is an outward appearance to man that you have repented and received Jesus and the Holy Spirit into your life, Matthew 3:11, but Jesus himself never baptized with water, John 4:2, for the baptism of Jesus was for receiving the Spirit of God (Holy Spirit) that helps us to learn all truths and to know the will of the Father, 1 Thessalonians 4:1-12.

After repentance and the Spiritual rebirth, John 3:5-7, we are then baptized in the Holy Spirit and fire through that of Christ baptism according to Acts 2:38, 39, Matthew 3:11.

donadams, which two or three passages do you want us to discuss? I prefer that people summarize their beliefs rather than giving us mountains of passages to which we can't respond with one post.

start with Mk 16:16
The ESV of Mark 16:16 says,

Mar 16:16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

First, the ending of Mark 16 is disputed as being in the original because it isn't in the most-ancient manuscripts, but it might have been original.

Second, the two clauses reveal by comparison that belief saves a person, not baptism, because Jesus leaves out baptism in the second one.

Third, spiritual, not physical, baptism along with a spiritual "heart-transplant" comes with true faith, as Ezekiel 36:24-27 says clearly:

Eze 36:24 I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries and bring you into your own land.
Eze 36:25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleanness, and from all your idols I will cleanse you.
Eze 36:26 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
Eze 36:27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.

You're welcome, donadams. :) Do you mean to say that the Jews who return to the promised land from exile believe in salvation by water baptism? They did not; there is no evidence. John's water baptism is a sign of the people's inner repentance that has already taken place through John's preaching.

titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit.

Note 1) Saved by both washing (baptismal regeneration) and the renewing of the Spirit! (saved means justified not full eternal salvation, but part of the process.

Note 2) this verse shows that baptism is NOT A WORK, "not of works righteousness" but God's work of a new creation in Christ!

The Sacraments are NOT about man’s work. They are the work of Christ and the Holy Spirit. They are how Christ dispenses grace to us and how we obtain union with God.

The seven sacraments are the signs and instruments by which the Holy Spirit spreads the grace of Christ the head throughout the Church which is his Body.

Seated at the right hand of the Father" and pouring out the Holy Spirit on his Body which is the Church, Christ now acts through the sacraments he instituted to communicate his grace.

They are actions of the Holy Spirit at work in his Body, the Church.

They are efficacious because in them Christ himself is at work: it is he who baptizes, he who acts in his sacraments in order to communicate the grace that each sacrament signifies.

Dogma:
109. There is a supernatural intervention of God in the faculties of the soul, which precedes the free act of the will.
110. There is a supernatural influence of God in the faculties of the soul which coincides in time with man’s free act of will.
111. For every salutary act internal supernatural grace of God (gratia elevans) is absolutely necessary.
112. Internal supernatural grace is absolutely necessary for the beginning of faith and of salvation.
162. The Sacraments of the New Covenant contain the grace which they signify, and bestow it on
those who do not hinder it.
163. The Sacraments work ex opere operato (simply by being done).
164. All the Sacraments of the New Covenant confer sanctifying grace on the receivers.
165. Three Sacraments, Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Orders, imprint a character, that is, an
indelible spiritual mark, and for this reason cannot be repeated.
166. The Sacramental Character is a spiritual mark imprinted on the soul.
167. The Sacramental Character continues at least until the death of its bearer.
168. All the Sacraments of the New Covenant were instituted by Jesus Christ.
169. There are Seven Sacraments of the New Law.
170. The Sacraments of the New Covenant are necessary for the salvation of mankind.
171. For the valid dispensing of the Sacraments it is necessary that the minister accomplish the
Sacramental Sign in the proper manner.
172. The minister must further have the intention at least of doing what the Church does.

Grace is free (Eph 2:8) but that doesn’t mean that we have no part to play in receiving grace.
Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of sharing the glory of God. (Rom 5:1-2).
We have been given access to grace.

Working together with him, then, we entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain. (2Cor 6:1).
We have not only to access grace but we have to accept it.

God gives us grace for a purpose. He wants to make us holy, perfect.
[Jesus Christ] who gave himself for us to redeem us from all iniquity and to purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds. (Titus 2:14)

You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. (Mt 5:48).
Being perfect is not just avoiding sinning but perfecting the virtues. For this we need grace.

God is not a doctrine or an emotion. We can’t participate in His life by believing something about Him or feeling something for Him. Joining in the life of God is something we must do. Union with God can only be achieved through activity. And from the beginning of the Christian faith, God has specified certain practices in which we are to participate with Him. Through these activities, He blends our lives with His. These special events are called sacraments…….they are God-designed and God-ordained.

A covenant requires an outward sign!

Jn 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

2 pet 1:11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

A sacrament is an outward sign for all men including infants And a gift from God to help us see what he does inwardly and invisibly by his grace!

As grace Washes our souls in the merits of Jesus blood from original and personal sin, so the outward action of washing is visible!

without the outward action the inward action cannot take place!

Jn 3:5 Titus 3:5 water and washing
acts 22:16 wash away your sin!

Jn 3:5 Born again BY water and the spirit! Not by “faith alone”!

They did not go to Jerusalem and preach “accept Christ as you’re personal Lord and savior “

They went to the river (water) and they baptized! Jn 3:22

A covenant requires an outward sign of the inward action of grace!

Ez 36:25 I will sprinkle you with clean water and you shall be made white as snow.

(((you also believe in the necessity of an outward sign and use baptism to be that sign, that public expression of the "faith alone" that you believe already saved you)))

Not called to “faith alone” Phil 1:29

faith being alone "faith alone" is dead! James

(((actual instructions for baptism)))

Jesus expressly commanded the apostles to baptize using that formula: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt. 28:19).

(comments about baptism)

Acts 2:38 “… in the name of Jesus Christ …”
8:16 “… in the name of the Lord Jesus.”
10:48 “… in the name of Jesus Christ.”
19:5 “ … in the name of the Lord Jesus.”
22:16 “… calling on His name"

Pope Pius XI, Quas Primas, on the Feast of Christ the King (#15): "The gospels present this kingdom as one which men prepare to enter by penance and cannot actually enter except by faith and by baptism, which, though an external rite, signifies and produces an interior regeneration."

Pope St. Leo the Great, dogmatic letter to Flavian, Council of Chalcedon, 451: “Let him heed what the blessed apostle Peter preaches, that sanctification by the Spirit is effected by the sprinkling of Christ’s blood (1 Pet. 1:2); and let him not skip over the same apostle’s words, knowing that you have been redeemed from the empty way of life you inherited from your fathers, not with corruptible gold and silver but by the precious blood of Jesus Christ, as of a lamb without stain or spot (1 Pet. 1:18). Nor should he withstand the testimony of blessed John the apostle: and the blood of Jesus, the Son of God, purifies us from every sin (1 Jn. 1:7); and again, This is the victory which conquers the world, our faith. Who is there who conquers the world save one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? It is He, Jesus Christ, who has come through water and blood, not in water only, but in water and blood. And because the Spirit is truth, it is the Spirit who testifies. For there are three who give testimony – Spirit and water and blood. And the three are one. (1 Jn. 5:4-8) in other words, the spirit of sanctification and the blood of redemption and the water of baptism. These three are one and remain indivisible. None of them is separable from its link with the others."
