Cheap recipes

dirtfarmer here

WIP you can brown the ground beef and make what I call "milk gravy.
Drain the beef and save some of the "grease", put about 2 tablespoons of flour in the "grease" until it begins to bubble and thicken, then add about a cup and a half of milk and cook until it begins to thicken add the browned beef to the gravy and pour it over buttered toast. That will make you almost swallow your tongue getting the next bite

Southerners! :lol

Sautéed celery and onion. Just can't beat it.

hello WIP, dirtfarmer here

I like onions almost any way.

Speaking of southerners, I like fried chicken gizzards. That's a cheap meal also.

hello wondering, dirtfarmer here

I was wondering if you could or would give us some of your quick to prepare and easy Italian recipes?

Man you guys are awesome!! I'm going to save all these recipes!

Along this same line of thinking,

Hamburger
Cr. mushroom soup
Chopped onion
Chopped celery
Sliced mushrooms
Wide egg noodles, macaroni, or other pasta of choice

Brown the hamburger and then add cream soup with half recommended liquid. You don't want it to be soupy.
Season with Seasoned Salt or other choice seasonings.
Sauté onions and celery in butter until crisp tender and add to the meat.
Simmer to blend flavors.
While simmering, heat water to boil and cook the noodles and then add to the meat sauce.
Makes a good casserole.

Variations:
  • Add a little sour cream just before serving to give it a stroganoff twist.
  • Use leftover roast cut into cubes in place of the hamburger and add dark gravy mix or Au Jus or both to make an even more stroganoffy dish.
  • Put in an oven proof casserole and top with shredded cheese, bread crumbs, or french fried onions and bake until browned. Never did this myself but just thought of it and it sounds good. Might have to try it.
  • Use cream of chicken or cream of celery soup and left over chicken in place of the hamburger.
  • Use tuna instead of hamburger and add whole peas and or beans.
Casseroles are fun to make and are inexpensive. Any combination of the above can be good too or any other ideas you may have. Just start mixing veggies with meat and some kind of a sauce or cheeses and you've got a winning combination easily. Let your imagination be your guide.

My mom used to make it with tuna a lot. I grew up on tuna noodle casserole lol. :)

You guys are bringing back childhood memories..
long before there was pasta there was macaroni.. :)

If you like cantaloupe take one and cut it in half, remove the seed, then fill 1/2 with vanilla ice cream and watch your favorite movie. For breakfast make some biscuits, put about 1/4 stick of butter in the middle of each biscuit as soon as they come out of the oven, then proceed to eat the other half in the morning for breakfast.
