Christ In You

  • Colossians 1:26-27 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to His saints, To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

That "mystery" remains hidden...hidden in plain Scripture. Admittedly, I have never been a church goer so perhaps it was taught...but I doubt it.

Whether we are a Gentile or of the house of Judah, (a Jew) or of the house of Israel, (a Christian), God "would make known" to you this mystery. He wants it made known to the Gentile so I assume He believes it is already known to Israel...is it?

  • CHRIST IN YOU, THE HOPE OF GLORY

What does that mean to you?

Ww,

There is not a fleshly connection to God, the Father and his Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ; except the connection through Jesus' blood and the new name the Father has given him in the resurrection.

Matt 4:14-16
14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying
15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, of Galilee the Gentiles;
16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. KJV

Judah is given as a symbol of faith through law. Samaria, Ephraim, Galilee is given as a symbol of faith apart from law. The Galileans were given the call first, even as Abraham ( Abram ) was called in uncircumcision and justified before God while in uncircumcision. Faith is given from God while serving in either mode.

Abraham was given to be the father of us all, that both modes of service may be assured of being justified before God through His calling and election; His free gift of justification and the sanctification that is in His election. Both will be glorified in the resurrection.
Rom 4:16
16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, KJV

You must realize that this is one subject that Christians really do not like to talk about.

Oh...I remember! :lol That was me. Not so much that I didn't like to talk about it but it sounded so strange and weird that I couldn't comprehend what it meant. As I said...a mystery in plain Scripture and a mystery "God would make known." It shouldn't remain a mystery to His saints.

Yes and that was not even so long ago :yes

God had mercy on you and opened your eyes. Even on the other forum, I saw that you do have a love for the Word and that you were earnestly seeking. We have locked horns many times, and will again I am sure, but I love you as a sister in the Lord, because you love His Word. God Himself will iron out our understanding. The time is almost here for Christ to manifest in His body, and at that time, all our questions will be answered. There is a great separation coming in the Body as you already know.Brother will turn against brother. The letter is going to come against the spirit and kill it. History is about to repeat.

My heart breaks because the people of God are not ready. Most do not have faith against the common cold, how are they going to survive what is coming ? Some even have no idea what is about to happen , and will mock like in the days of Noah. Again, nothing changes, it only repeats. History is the "more sure prophesy " that we have.

Matt 18:15-16
15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. KJV

Matt 18:19,20
19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heave
20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. KJV

We are members of Jesus' body. Jesus comes to the body that the Father has ordained for him from the foundation of the world. Jesus of Nazareth, whom God has made both Lord and Christ, is the Head of the Body. In Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead and this fullness is made manifest through the different parts of the Body. Each parts is the instrument of a measure/portion/part of the grace of God that is in the Head. The Head justifies the entire body with all its members/parts. Some parts must needs be cut off and plucked out.

Luke 17:21 is also a case where Jesus says the Kingdom of God is within you.

I think that many fundamentalists feel that this sounds too new age like. Most world religions and especially in Asia and the ancient Americas believe that the kingdom of God is within you too. I don't know why this is also considered to be "new age" when these faiths like Hinduism or Buddhism or Native American Shamanism pre date Christ.

There is also a good case that Jesus was influenced by the teachings of Buddhist dharma that was spread from India to the Middle East through trade routes.

The teachings of Hinduism and Buddhism have greatly increased here in the US within the last 30 years. Even a couple in my family are quite taken with these beliefs. I do note a major difference though. They do not believe all are 'sinners' in need of a Savior....rather concentrate on the good that already exist within, overcome the ego and one can so dedicate one's self to good morality and humanitarian works that they are GOD in human flesh.

On the protestant side, John Wesley (circa @ later 1700s - founder of Methodism) taught 'Christ IN YOU, the Hope of Glory' and was very diligent about it, though this particular teaching has lost much of it's beginning fervor in the many branches of Methodism today.

The prophets had the Spirit of Christ in them.

1Pe 1:10 Concerning which salvation the prophets sought and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:
1Pe 1:11 searching what time or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did point unto, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that should follow them.
1Pe 1:12 To whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto you, did they minister these things, which now have been announced unto you through them that preached the gospel unto you by the Holy Spirit sent forth from heaven; which things angel desire to look into.

I don't know why so many people try to make things so hard (not you specifically, but people in general) But then maybe I am missing the question....as I understand the question...what is the mystery? Let's look at scripture and allow scripture to identify the mystery for us...

Mark 4:10-12 (King James Version)

10And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.

11And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

12That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

Rom. 11 25I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in. 26And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written:
"The deliverer will come from Zion;
he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.

Rom 16 25Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, 26but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all nations might believe and obey him 27to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.

1 Corinthians 15:50-52 (King James Version)

50Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

51Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

This one is especially helpful because it is about glory, just as the OP verse says which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

I could go on, but since I might have the question wrong, I'll stop there...the mystery is that Christ lives...He lives in us, through us, with us, around us...He lives. And it is this very aliveness that is not only a mystery, but is our very hope for the glory promised to us. The promise of life, the promise of glory, the promise of Spirit over physical...

Well, we are talking about thousands of years here. We are talking about the spirit of the age, to which all of that particular age are beholden, and we are talking about knowing that spirit and its particulars to the ages. We are talking about knowing the narrative of man seen in the new and old testaments and the way within Christ and the direction to which we [will] tend.

A writer to which I have great respect one said something like: and when you asked a man whom had found the meaning of life, he could not speak it, why therein is the answer.

But that we might let the inspiration of God do the talking seems ample enough of an answer for me.

Hi GoodNewsBob...welcome to the forum.

The inspiration of God does do the talking but "Christ in you" is a lesson that should be taught as He teaches it over and over.

  • Luke 17:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is WITHIN YOU.

17:24-25 For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day. But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.

17:26-27 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

17:28-29 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

17:30-31 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.

17:37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles (vultures) be gathered together.

Wherever the body of Christ is, wherever the man child is....there the vultures gather. The body of Christ is the "Son of man" that will be revealed IN us. Why do they gather? Why do vultures ever gather? :shrug

  • 11 Thessalonians 1:10 When He shall come to be glorified IN HIS SAINTS, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

Hello, your pose; "CHRIST IN YOU, THE HOPE OF GLORY", what does that mean, is a valid and elementary question. Simply put, it is referring to the Holy Spirit. Jesus told us; "I must go, but when I go I will send one after me, the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete". When you receive the gospel and ask Jesus to come into your heart and receive Him as your Lord and savior, the Holy Spirit indwells you that very moment and you are, essentially and graciously, "born anew" or "born again" spiritually and "sealed with the Holy Spirit". The Father, the Christ and the Holy Spirit are one. When you have the Holy Spirit abiding in you you have "Christ in you." Since you have Christ in you, we are promised that as God the Father raised Jesus from the dead He will also raise us up on the "last day", hence, "the hope of glory" which is to be with Him where He is.
