- Colossians 1:26-27 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to His saints, To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
That "mystery" remains hidden...hidden in plain Scripture. Admittedly, I have never been a church goer so perhaps it was taught...but I doubt it.
Whether we are a Gentile or of the house of Judah, (a Jew) or of the house of Israel, (a Christian), God "would make known" to you this mystery. He wants it made known to the Gentile so I assume He believes it is already known to Israel...is it?
- CHRIST IN YOU, THE HOPE OF GLORY
What does that mean to you?
You must realize that this is one subject that Christians
really do not like to talk about.
Oh...I remember! That was me. Not so much that I didn't like to talk about it but it sounded so strange and weird that I couldn't comprehend what it meant. As I said...a mystery in plain Scripture and a mystery "God would make known." It shouldn't remain a mystery to His saints.
I don't know why so many people try to make things so hard (not you specifically, but people in general) But then maybe I am missing the question....as I understand the question...what is the mystery? Let's look at scripture and allow scripture to identify the mystery for us...
Mark 4:10-12 (King James Version)
10And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.
11And he said unto them,
Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
12That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
Rom. 11 25I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in. 26And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written:
"The deliverer will come from Zion;
he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.
Rom 16 25Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, 26but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all nations might believe and obey him 27to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen.
1 Corinthians 15:50-52 (King James Version)
50Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
51Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
This one is especially helpful because it is about glory, just as the OP verse says which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
I could go on, but since I might have the question wrong, I'll stop there...the mystery is that Christ lives...He lives in us, through us, with us, around us...He lives. And it is this very aliveness that is not only a mystery, but is our very hope for the glory promised to us. The promise of life, the promise of glory, the promise of Spirit over physical...
